    G21 option question

Just going down the list to order a '15 G21. Trading my '10 226 in. Pretty much have all options nailed down but was wondering....Seating - Bow Armrest(Retractable). Who has them and who doesn't? Just wondering if I need them or are they in the way. It's $673 dollars in extra gas....lol

They fold down, so they are never in the way.

I had them in 2013, and then did NOT get them in 2014. My wife was NOT happy that the '14 didn't have them. I ordered them again on the '15.

They are quite comfortable when riding in the bow.

Thanks Jeff. I think I will go with your wife on this one. I don't want my nine year old to say "cool boat...but where's the armrests like they had at the boat show"....lol

Thanks Joe. I'm going to leave them on the order as stands. Anything else you got that you shouldn't have or wish you had on your G?

One thing regarding the bow armrests that we noticed. If you have the filler cushion and it is in place with the cushion up you will have to move it in order to raise the armrests up. I do not believe this is an issue if you have the filler piece installed with the SeaDek up. Most people we have had in the boat, like to lower the arms when they leave the bow because it makes entry to those seats easier later....maybe it is just a novelty for the time being. That aside, everyone likes the idea of the armrests.

              #7
I went with the factory stereo and tower speakers on my g21 but in the end i wish i hadn't. It was very expensive and it sounded like crap. I love the cans that are used for the tower speakers but the rest was terrible. I had a shop redo everything including new power and speakers and it was so much better and it didn't cost as much as the factory cost. I am sure you have loaded the boat with lots of goodies. I have the 450 and love the engine. I also have to say i love the garbage can and the walk threw sliding door. I ride in the fall when it is cold so the heated seat rocks! At the end of the day you can't go wrong with the G21 it is such an awesome boat with a wicked wake!

If it was me I would pass on the arm rests as I would be a bit irritated bumping them or worrying about them getting damaged in the long run when getting in and out of the boat. And we just frankly toss stuff in the bow without too much concern on where it lands.

My question is this...do you need the heater/defroster if you have the heated seats?

I understand that the tower is still prewired if you don't get the tower speakers prep kit or any tower speakers. But is there any $ savings if you delete the stereo and amps? Is that even an option? If so how much savings $?

Thanks for the info NV. I'm going with the 409, and while I didn't hard load the boat with options, I did get a few that I had on my old boat and left some off that I don't need. I'm in South Texas, so no heater, no heated seats. But I was curious to scottb7's question....just how warm are those seats???....lol I'm going to leave the factory stereo in but the dealer is installing Rev 8's on the tower. Just don't want to mess with amps and other stuff. If it sounds better then my 2010, I'll be OK with it. The dealer didn't have one to look at but are you saying the pocket door actually slides in and out as opposed to folding like my 226's?? Right now I have the slide in door ready to go on the order...but was just curious how the more expensive door worked. Scottb7...from what others have said, the armrests are really streamlined when folded down so I am going with the armrests.

It doesn't fold. It is a pocket door so it slides out from the left to the right. I am watching these emails closely because I am getting closer to getting my own g21...But I am cheap so I would get the slide in one. But the pocket door one was pretty cool. Go for it.

Pocket door is nice but too much $$$$

I passed up on LED cup holders which was a $450 option or so. I asked the dealer how much to add now that the boat is delivered and being stored til the Spring. It was like $1,350. I'll do it myself for way less.

Get the base stereo. You can get a better stereo for less money.

Thanks Scott. As it is right now, i'm placing my order in the next few days. On the saved order sheet my dealer has ready to go, I've got the slide in one marked...because the pocket is crazy expensive compared to the slide like you said. I am in Texas so it's not really THAT cold to need to block the wind. It would be more "cool" to get the pocket but it would be just so my daughter could open and close it...seriously. You know the current saying.."If you can afford a G....what more is the pocket door...lol"....BUT....I saved a few thousand by trimming some things I don't really need or want. The price of that pocket door could buy both my kids new mountain bikes!! Good luck when you get closer to pulling the trigger. It is exciting to go down the list and pick and choose your new boat!! Have a good one. Ken

                          Exciting times--you'll love the G21. It's a nice boat!

I really dislike the attitude of "...well, you can afford a G so just get everything you want, forget the cost." It's an irrational line of thinking. If you spend $5k for options that don't provide big value to you, it's the same as spending $5k somewhere else for things that don't bring you big value. Just because the spending at hand is tied to an expensive boat has nothing to do with the fact that it's spending on high cost / low value products. I'm guessing that most buyers of G series boats aren't the type that, on a whim, spend $5k on non-boat miscellaneous stuff they'll use little if ever. Most want value for the money they spend.

The slide in pocket door is a perfect example. I love it...but, even though i ride in the winter, I didn't spring for it. For me, the cost wasn't worth the benefit. Underwater lights and LED cupholders are another example: if I were going to use the boat at dusk or night frequently, I'd have gone for it. But I do that once every couple of years, so the cost isn't worth the benefit. For me, the bow filler cushion was another example. On my last boat, I put it in garage and never pulled it out until I sold the boat.

BTW, the seats are warm--warm enough to make me sweat on cool spring mornings. Still, I also like having a heater. For the driver, it keeps your feet warm. And for passengers, it's one more source of heat...one person can have the heated seat and one person can stick the vent tube under their jacket to warm up.

I totally agree with you. However it does seem like many people for boats (or even cars) look at what the upgrades cost as % of the total purchase. I am kind of bummed at how much they for the bimini, the cover, and the deck color. Those figures seem crazy high.

I did not order them. One reason is cost and second is that I try to have a boat as simple as possible. Less items to take care of or that interfere in the traffic. But in my case, the G21 is a training item, not a leisure one.
Some of the options I consider them a must such as a proper engine or nss or exhaust. However, upholstery, pocket door, heater...I always question if I am really going to use them.
