    Safe ballast weight 2001 SAN

Hey all, I am thinking of pulling out my factory ballast tanks and going with 750's either side. With that I'd already over the placard 1250 lbs and not counting any forward ballast. I realize that some people don't count ballast weight against the placard. Even if that is true how much weight is safe structurally? I've read posts in the past about mysterious gel coat cracks that question too much ballast weight flexing the fiberglass etc.on other boat models/brands. I just bought the boat so I am kinda going blind as to how much weight I really need and I hear this boat throws a pretty mean wake as it is. For this boat what would be the safest ballast layout based on 2 average weighted adults in the boat? (surfing and wakeboarding please)

    Thanks!

Safe is a "grey area" IMHO. I can't honestly say I've ever seen stress cracks from ballast weight. They usually form from an impact or too much force applied to a cleat/tower mount. I've been running 2200-2300# in my boat since I bought it in 2003 and have no stress cracks anywhere. I'm about to order 2500# worth of bags and remove the rear hard tanks. In total I should be about 2800# and have no worries. I know of multiple people running more than that on the same hull.

Just because you have the potential for that much weight doesn't mean you have to fill them all the way either. Run what you're comfortable with.
