    G21 and G23 Trailer tires

I have seen some G21 boats on trailers with load range C tires. Tire size was 205 75 14 with a load C rating. Tires are rated at 1760 each or 7040 total
Is this common? Others have 215 75 15 with C rating and 1820 per tire or 7280 total
    Boat 5200
    Trailer 1600
    Gear and Fuel 600
    Total 7400-500 for tongue weight= 6900
This is Cutting it pretty close.

    Anyone have C's as well?

I have seen it, but I wouldn't want it. You can get Maxxis M8008 LR-D in 205/75-15 or Kumho 857 LR-D in 205-14. You want to make sure your wheel is rated for 65 psi.

With G21s weighing in at 7500-8000 with trailer, tires weighted at 90-110% their capacities... Think about tire longevity, ability to withstand blowouts from impacts, punctures etc.

Your line of questioning and concerns are dead on. Suggest you look into the 18" high capacity tires that come standard on Boatmate and others, much higher capacities, check their website. Going that route you should be able to keep them under 90% ratings.

          Don't get me started....
This is sort of a pet peeve of mine, having lived with a trailer with 14 inch rims and trailer tires that keep blowing out. All the while I noted I have very few blowouts on any of my other vehicles. I got a toy hauler, which is heavier than any of our boats. I roamed around the toy hauler forums and found that it was near unanimous to get truck tires for the toy hauler. From my research and experience, trailer tires are mostly a scam. Oddly enough, the high capacity tires NYryan speaks of are car tires, usually rated to 2,000 pounds or more. Before I start getting blasted about sidewall rigidity on trailer vs. car tires, just start asking around how many of the guys with car tires have had a problem vs. how many of the guys with trailer tires. These tires for 18 or even 20 inch rims are much less likely to fail, and that is what my new Nautique will have.

Rant over....Changing tires on the side of the road in 110 degree temps does that to a guy.

Tall your experimence is the same as mine. The industry standard 14" Marathon style trailer tires haven't performed well for me. Junk.

The sidewall rigidity argument goes moot when you go up to 18" tires, the sidewall is 1/3 to 1/2 the size it is on 14" tires, and a lot less flex.

Nyryan..one thing to note....the 18's are NOT standard on the Boatmate trailers. The 14's are. You want the 18 inch rims and car tires to go with it, they are in the options section for Boatmate...get the wallet out.

None of 18" tires boatmate uses are rated for over 2000 lbs each.. The 255 55 18 are the highest at 1929 each or 7716 total.. There are a lot of g23's running around that are more than that on the trailer. The max weight of boat and trailer sticker (total gvw) is 8400 on the ones i have seen. It used two 4200 lb axles. But the tires are only rated at 7716 and the entire package rolling down the road is more than that. I would think if you were pulled over or caused and accident, one thing they would check would we that the tire load capacity was more than the gvw sticker on the trailer.

My boatmate trailer for 210 has tires rated at 1760 each or 7040 total.. The sticker on trailer says 7000 lbs max total weight. That makes sense to me.

                What am I missing?

Kenv- I already had my wallet out, thanks. I'm not the one asking for help, OP is, I feel fairly qualified to comment on it as I already went thru all this, ended up swapping trailers over it.

White- they have some rated slightly higher than that, combined 4 around 8400lbs, I belive the same ones TallRed has on his G23. This is why I went triple axel. I have them on my trailer, I can send pics in a few weeks. If 7716lbs was the max every dual axel G23 and G25 would be over limit.

Ryan...no prob. I know you are not the one asking for help....but I was trying to clarify one of your statements: "Suggest you look into the 18" high capacity tires that come standard on Boatmate" Mark from Boatmate told me on the phone the 14's were the "Standard" rim/tire package. That is for a new 2015 Boatmate trailer. Might have been different in the past. If I could get the 18'inch rims and tire package "Standard" without paying extra I would go that route on my ordered G21/Boatmate. Maybe they are standard on the triple axle trailers. Is your's a Boatmate? I definitely see where a triple axle trailer would work well on a 23 or 25...but probably a little overkill on the 21.

Boatmate did make me bend over to put the alternative rims and tires on there. I could have done it for cheaper and still had a set of spare 14 inch trailer tires as well. But I decided for the sake of efficiency, just to get the tires and rims from them. The only pitfall I was worried about was matching the right sized fender and offset. That probably would not have been too hard, but I also liked the idea of having some warranty in hand if there were an issue with fitment.

Tall, is your trailer nearby? What's the weight rating on yours?
