hey, guys, my 15 year old wants to try wake skating. Needs a board, too, any suggestions? What speed is typical for wake skating? Thanks!

I would get something cheap first to see if he likes it. Buywake has boards for under $200. As far as speed, you want to go as slow as possible with a short rope length just like if you were teaching somebody to wakeboard. You will not need any ballast. Jumping a stock wake on a wakeskate is a blast in itself!!

I would say starting at 15.5 mph for kids/girls/beginners (up to 130 pounds) and then up to 21mph for adults/experts.
Board: cheap one with fins and rubber on the top (barefoot) for beginners (second hand 100$ or even less)
Fiber/carbon/bi-level finless for experts (up to 500$)
Do not buy an expert one to start with as they are hard to control. They need an easy one to learn waterstart, basic turns/ slides and ollies.

I wake skate all the time . Being an old skater I prefer it over wakeboarding. I would start with a foam topped board by cwb then progress to grip tape style . I started with s cwb and its great because when you crash it doesn't rip your legs up. I now use a byerly board with dc skate shoes. You can kick flip, Ollie , etc.
speed is 17 for me. I started at 15
Hope I helped . Pm me for any helpCurrent Correct Craft Boat
