Seeping G Ballast

Moving from the yellow to green impellers fixed the old problem, I think.

They did for my previous boats. The other solution was to simply use gravity to your advantage. Run an extra loop of intake hose from the thru-hull to a few inches above the water line and the above the highest tank/bag (when filled) then back down to the bag/tank. This was of course easier when the pumps were mounted on the inside of the transom.

Apparently they fixed this issue in 2015. I just got mine out today and see that they have electronic valves that open when the pumps are on like was mentioned in some earlier posts.

You are correct in assuming that check valves will not work because the pumps are bi-directional. This also rules out most off-the-shelf valves as they do no support bi-directional flow. The "fix" is a system that automatically closes the ball valves when no pumps are running (which is what pmellis is referring to). This system is retrofit-able.

Yeah, I know that's what the Mussel Mast'r is for. I was saying that that might be what pmellis saw and thought was valves. Adam, are there automatic valves on all of the 2015 boats? If so, that's great!

The valves I saw are right above the intakes. My dealer told me they are to stop the seeping issues that occurred in past years. I assume all 2015s have them.

Pretty sure my 15 has normal valves. I haven't noticed any unusual wiring or plumbing running to the through hull valves.

I have that problem on my G21.. its not a big deal if the sacks don't get a hole ;-). Sometimes they hold over night, next time half of the ballast is filled. If i remember.. never the bow sack.

I'd like to see pictures....my valves are manual...I took delivery a few weeks ago.

From an engineering standpoint I'd prefer a passive solution like an AS loop if possible vs electric valves. Introduces yet another item into the system and increased cost, another winterization item possibly. Also wouldn't want anything that adds time to the 7-9min fill times, not sure if it does.

Hey Ryan,

Unfortunately traditional AS loops do not work because of the bi-directional flow in our system. There are solenoid operated AS loops but they are not very reliable. The system uses the current ball valves so there is is no added time to the normal fill/drain cycle. If for some reason a component were to fail then there is a quick/easy way to manually open or close the valve still.
