Wowsa. Not going to be cheap. Gotta be into 3-$500 after labor.

Is Nautique willing to retrofit boats built prior to Jan 1, 2015? Mine was built in October 2014

I had a factory tour this week and asked the question. You'll have to pay for the retrofit. The boat we're getting was built late last year and doesn't have the valves either. I don't like the idea of knowing that I already need to spend money before even taking delivery. Good news is that he said they are doing the shaft upgrade on all g's.

That is interesting, having to spend money before taking delivery. I guess they could make the argument that you don't have to. But would it be asking to darn much for them to say it is free to you, but it has to be done at the dealership or something like that?

Jed1974-what shaft upgrade are you referring too?

They put out a bulletin on the prop shafts shearing. Just check with your dealer to see if you are on list for replacement.

Since you have a 15 it might not be. My 15 was in the clear (Sept 2014 build).

I think I would rather open the door and close the valves myself if the boat was spending the night in the water. How are those cables moved-servo motors?

I was told boats prior to Jan 2015 have the old shaft and they just started shipping out the replacements for older boats in the last few weeks.

Not sure when the cut off was. Just going off the word of my dealer saying I'm good.

For cars you can tell when it was built by the VIN code. I'm not sure if boats work the same way. I know when mine was built because I toured the factory when it was on the line.

To be honest I sort of hope my boat does not have the 'fix'. Looks like something else that might just break. Order was submitted on January 7th, so I will get back with you. I should have her in my garage this afternoon!

The newest ballast impeller is red. I wonder if it could be stiff enough to prevent this. I am not sure what the red is supposed to be like.

Guys, just to reiterate.... This is a slow leak into the ballast sacs over 6-8-10-14+hrs. Slow.

It'd be 1/4 full in one sac, 1/2 in another after 12-15hrs overnight. It'd be random which bags would fill.

I wanna say the max I saw once was 2/3ds. If you close your seacocks it doesn't happen. My boat is in the water EVERY Fri-Sun in the summer, so I saw it more than most. Dont get the impression it's anything to rush out to get fixed or something to worry about. More of an annoyance.

I absolutely dont want that servo fix. That's where we keep our daily trash bag. We keep a roll of kitchen bags in the glove box and open one up daily and just lay in down on there and it filled up over the day with bottles and such. Super convienient and accessible to everyone there and yank it out at the end of the day. No plastic can to get filthy. A moving mechanical servo would get bound up in it.

Mine has the servo motors. Order was submitted January 7th. You can't move them passively. So if they break, they are likely stuck. The arm on the valve is just bolted to the servo, so if you happen to have the right wrench, you can just remove it. My worry would be that mine fails and then I don't have the right wrench and I cannot fill my ballast when that happens. It looks like a 3/8 inch nut, one thing to be sure to have in the boat.

If this motor serves to be extremely reliable it will be fine. Does anyone know where this motor comes from and does it have a reliable track record?

                              What Ryan said….
We’re in Thursday/Friday through Sunday arvo……..longer over the holidays.
I’m not too concerned, the boat is designed for the ballast weight and more, so as long as the bags don’t leak to the bilge, who cares.
The seep is very very slow and worse case only fills the bags to the water line, so they never completely fill.
Even if they did leak, we have 2 bilge pumps that will easily take care of the leak.
We check the boat at sunset, dawn and during the night if I go to the toilet.
I wouldn’t leave it for a week, but for the above, relax it’s not an issue……….

I’m probably jumping into a 16 model soon and will ask for no servo operated valves. The bilge is crowed already………I need the room for 3 extra ballast pumps down there as we run extra.

In fact most times we don’t bother emptying the ballast. Just moor it and go have dinner and a beer……

Sorry really dumb question: are the pumps under the waterline? If so wouldn't bringing them above the waterline alleviate the pressure on/water getting past the impeller?
