Since you unearthed this tread I should mention that several individuals have had major issues with Wake Specialties and they are no long in "good standing" with many PNers.

You can now find everything you need at:

    www.superbrightleds.com
    www.besthongkong.com
    www.oznium.com

as well as several other online suppliers.

Also since this was posted I was ticketed for immitating a marine patrol with my blue leds on my tower lights. In California any blue light viewable from the exterior of the boat is a big no-no. I was dead sober and spent two hours going through the sobriety BS on the river with my wife and sister very cold and shivering in the boat. All of my LEDs have since been changed to white. Also, mosquitos love the blue, white not quite as much, red not at all, not sure about the other colors.

Mike - thanks for the info. I've seen some pics of your boat with blue and white lights... looks sick!

I'm not trying to go crazy wtih LED's as I don't go out at night very often at all. It's more a matter of me wanting to do something to my boat that is inexpensive and this seems like a good option.

What would be the best type of LED's to use to light under my observer seat and some other areas in my boat? I want to use the existing wiring that's run for the courtesy lights and splice into the line. Would the flexible strips be easiest to use? Can they be used without adding a resistor? I'm learning as I go with LED's, so I'll need some guidance.

I use the tape for most applications, I do have some pods, pucks, and bars too. Order up some samples and play around with them. No resistors needed if you use very thin gauge speaker wire with a bit of length (the wire itself will act as the resistor). Most LEDs draw very little power, they can be added to the stock circuits most of the time.

Mndanielsncsu did you ever get your wiring figured out? I have a 93 SNOB I am about to do the same lighting scheme as you described... Let me know how you did yours so I don't have to re-invent the wheel. Thanks!

I haven't gotten around to it yet. I had to take on some other projects that took precedent over this one, like the steering cable and damper plate.

I am still planning on buying some of the LED tape that Mike suggested. I've ordered some LED replacement bulbs from Superbright LED's and had good results from them, so I'll probably order from them again. My plan is to splice into the courtesy light wires, so I can control everything from one switch. I think it's pretty straight forward.
