There is no way a 230 won't be enough to do what you want or need it to. Now weather a G is a better boat than the 230, different question. It takes a lot of experience in a rider of any kind to out perform the capabilities of a 230. If you want the G, get the G. If you want to save money and buy a dang good boat that will do way more than what you need it to then by the 230.

Only time we get a lot over the bow is in an abnormal situation in which any boat is going to take some spray. In an average condition with light chop or no chop everything is perfect. Throw three or four foot rollers in the mix and you are getting wet. But 210 or I/O you are getting sprayed in rough conditions.

Again - if you can afford the 100 large it costs to buy one of these you should be able to afford the gas. If you are worried about gas then you need to rethink your need for a 230 or a G and step down to a older Super Air. Weight between the G and 230 is not significant enough to be a game changer. You are going to want a 409 anyway so you'll be going through gas at roughly the same rate as beer on a warm day.

I go thorough $60 - $75 per weekend in my Pro Air. A G or 230 will suck $130 - $200 per weekend if you are surfing or boarding a lot.

I'd go for the G (and a G23 at that) and not look back. While the 230 is a nice boat there will come a time when you will be thinking "I should have got that G because . . . "

cedarcreek216, thanks for the response. Yes even my I/O would give you a spray here and there when it got real choppy too. Thanks again for everyones opinions and knowledge it's greatly appreciated.

This is an awesome forum and I'm glad to be a part of it and soon to be Nautique owner !!

If you haven't already read this post you should. Basically your F250 is too light to safely tow a G23. Even with a WD hitch you are probably over the rating of the truck.

Back to the search. Make a list of what is important to you, then when you demo you'll have a better idea what to evaluate. Have fun and score each boat.

One more thing. I am going to predict that your family and grandchilfren are going to get even more interested in wakeboarding and surfing. Buy the boat that will provide many years of enjoyment. If you try to save a few bucks now and upgrade later you'll end up paying more overall. Learn from my oversights if you want.

Gs will consume more gas both while pulling someone and while cruising. Besides being heavy, it appears to me their hull shape is inefficient (but worth it, IMHO). It's too soon for me to know for sure, but it looks like I'll be burning +/-30% more gas in my G23 than my 210. For most people, that would be $500-1000 more annually.

Lots of good insight here on the site from a lot of experienced boat owners. We've had a 03 Supra SSV for the past 5 years, we've been looking to upgrade for the past 2 years, over that 2 years our boat budget somehow grew substantially. We just bought a g23 about a week ago, we've put about 2 hours on it so far, and love it. surf wave is awesome, maybe not the best. By Awesome I mean, launch the boat, push a couple buttons, drink a beer, then surf with a wave with plenty of push, not take water over the bow, not loose any storage space. We had the same concern about fuel economy, but it is funny to spend this much money on a boat then be worried about how much fuel economy. It is a valid concern, but in the end it's an extremely expensive hobby for most of us. The g23 was the one boat my wife and I both agreed. She like the new Supras and I like the Malibu's then we looked at a g23 at the boat show and both loved it. I'm still getting used to the slow speed handling of the G, it is like a barge compared to our SSV. It's just going to be an adjustment.
Its a huge decision, and probably a long term decision if you make the right one for your situation.
we spent more than x4 on the g23 as our SSV, and so far are regretting it.
                    good luck

We have 300 hours on our 2013 G with the 450 and it is moderately ballasted and towing wake boarders about 80% of its hours, and heavily ballasted and surfing about 10% of its hours. We average 6.0 gph. This is about 5% more than our previous PF X-star. While ballast levels and engine are the main factors in determining fuel consumption, how you drive makes a significant difference.
