2003 engine question

Ok, after years of saving it is about time to actually buy a boat.

I am looking at 2003 210s, obviously, and found a boat I like and can afford with the ZR6 engine. I haven't heard a whole lot about the ZR6 and was wondering what the pros and cons were, or what I should be looking for.

I have read a lot about these boats but any information you can give me would be awesome.

A 2003 210 with the ZR6 would be a great boat! There probably aren't too many out there simply because the ZR6 isn't really necessary in that boat, but it would be a great setup! I had a ZR6/375 in my 2007 236 and loved it. I got a prototype ZR6/390 ECU for it from PCM (I was testing Zero Off for Nautique at the time and needed this upgrade for it to work), and that made a noticeable difference. If you do end up with a 2003 ZR6, you might want to look into getting a 2008 ECU for it to boost the power to 390. I don't think that would allow you to add Zero Off to that boat though, since it requires additional electronics at the PME box that the 2003 210 won't have.

Generally speaking though, the torque from the ZR6 and the Excalibur 330 of that era are about the same until the upper RPM range. You likely won't notice too much difference unless you run the boat heavy and get into the upper RPM range often.

Also, did any of the 03 210 not come with ballast. The place selling the boat is not sure what options are installed. Is there a "vin" that nautique uses that I would be able to look up what options original came with the boat?

The Hull ID might be able to be used by a dealer to see what came on it from the factory. Not sure though.

I think the Super Sport 210 could be ordered without ballast. That's the same boat as the Super Air 210, but did not come stock with a tower, ballast, etc. Those could all still be added to the Super Sport at the factory though.
