i love the way the NDT towers look, better than the FCT imo, except i would request a round tube near the top, so that i can use whatever racks I want vs the ones for that goofy oval tube.

When you get the tower, it includes a quart can of fiberglass body filler. You scoop it out to put a 1/4 inch thick on the top of the backing plate, then hold the backing plate in place (Holes already drilled from top) for a few minutes and it stays in place. Drys on 1 hour, re-drill to clear out the fiberglass. This forms a perfect surface for the plate - no stress points (I looked at a number of towers including CC and they used plates but no the filler - this is an excellent process.

After talking to Wayne, bent the lower legs in one inch - perfect now !
I'm in the process of installing a NDT on my 99 Air and I'm curious how you tweak the legs for a flush fit against the hull. I assembled the tower and placed it on the boat and it seems the legs specifically on the driver side needs some tweaking to sit flush.

Sorry AC this thread is 11 years old. Might try some ratchet straps tho if they don't need to move much

I know this doesn't help for the weekend, but before you "tweak" too far I'd consider calling New Dimensions. Seems like a pretty customer oriented company

This was my original thread! I no longer have that boat, but what I recall was that Wayne indicated that the welding of the feet sometimes the heat causes a little "warping" which is normal and okay. I think what we did was we measured and put the hoops on the deck...then mounted the upper...which was kind of a bitch as I recall. It'll be tight, but it was rock solid and there was no cracking on the deck either, becuase we drilled and champfered the holes. It was super nice and Wayne was available by phone on a weekend to answer questions.

Thanks for all the replies. I was hoping that some of the original thread members or those that have installed a NDT would chime in on this topic. It seems fairly common the feet do not sit flush and I'm curious how this was overcome by the group in general prior to contacting Wayne for additional tips.

By placing the base (lower fixed portion) on both sides first and then adding the top, after full assembly was it difficult to lower and raise the tower? It'd seem like after releasing the top to lower, the sides would flare out causing a struggle to raise and realign... Did Wayne suggest this method? The install says to install with the tower assembled, but I can see your point.

It was not difficult at all actually, because I had to lower and raise it to fit in the garage. Wayne should be able to provide some additional guidance, because I sure don't remember exactly how we did it, but I am sure we put the lower hoops on first. I remember is was kind of a PITA to get the upper in the pivot points, but it all lined up perfectly once it was fully installed.
