Like the question says. I never see posts about the 200 or any Ski Nautique for that matter. Has slalom officially died? Gotta say this site feels more and more like a wakeboard only board.
Can't even ride a wakeboard, and the family spends more time in a slalom than a board. but we seem to be dinosaurs on our lake as well. dreaming of a 200 some day.
My son and I still get out with a friend early every weekend morning, looking for glass in my 200. Than when it starts getting choppy we switch over to his 210 and they can board or surf. Yes, it's a dying sport on my lake also. I think it's to much work to learn for most people nowadays but the feeling you get when carving on crystal clear water early morning can never be duplicated. IMHO. Actually did a "clean out" last season and got rid of all my old combos cause nobody wants to even try it anymore. Just glad that I started my boy at an early age because he still likes skiing better than boarding or surfing!
Slalom has died on this site for sure. Obviously that's due to the qty of wake boats sold compared to SN's. We've been seeing a resurgence in slalom amongst the young kids on our lake. With skiing being out of the spotlight for so many years, it's the "new, cool" thing to be doing for them. There are websites too, where 3 event is alive and well
I pretty much wakeboard only. I grew up on a ski and still barefoot a couple times a year, just to make sure I can still do it. There is a father and son on my lake with a 200 that ski the course regularly. The lake is only a mile and a half long. They come out late in the afternoon for 3 passes each. I always stop riding out of respect and just watch their passes.
Being an old competitive skier, I agree with WIllandbill, nothing beats a slalom on glass. Our kids are now in their 20s and we're actually going away from the current trend. We got rid of our 1998 Air and bought a 2002 196 cause the kids are more into skiing than wakeboarding. I've even got them hooked on trick skiing.
LastSeptember my kids (13&15) saw me slalom for the fist time. They were giving the gears until they saw me actually seen me do it. I now ,will carry a ski at all times just in case
We have a 2002 Ski Nautique. I think that was about the first year they started calling it a "196". Most of our hours are spent on a slalom ski with some barefooting mixed in also. We pull the wake board or trick ski out sometimes for a change of pace, maybe a half dozen times each summer. We now have a ski club on our private (POA) lake that promotes skiing and wake boarding. I think the skiing contingent is growing though since we purchased a portable slalom course. Whatever you do on the water, have fun and appreciate the privilege it is to participate!
I owned a Centurion Cyclone which gave a great surf wave. However, my family still likes to ski, therefore I bought a 200V. And love it. Skis great, ballasted properly has a great wakeboard and surf wake. So yes we ski.
Also grew up a slalom skier back in the 70's and 80's. Been skiing and wakeboarding ever since. I think that because many public lakes have become crowded and dont allow slalom courses, wakeboarding is more popular. Easier to wakeboard on rollers than it is to ski. My kids like the creativity and freedom of wakeboarding. Not tied to a course. Things move in cycles. If we could get some more courses on public lakes, you'd see slalom gain in popularity again.
They will have to pry my Connelly F1 slalom ski from my cold dead fingers! I think PN has more skiers that it seems as most of the discussion threads are boat maintenance related...
