Tower mirror or Windshield mirror? Help!

I currently have a windshield mount mirror on my 98 Air Nautique and I guess it is ok… I have been thinking about getting a tower mount mirror and I am wondering if it is worth the investment. For those of you who have switched do you like the tower style better? I have a second generation FCT tower on my boat and I am having trouble finding an arm that fits the 1” 7/8? Diameter tubing (I also need black). Any help would be great. Also do you think that the tower style look better?

I would suggest a PTM Edge mirror (MUCH wider field of view than the stock mirror that came with your boat), and either a PTM Edge windshield mount or a Roswell/Nautique windshield mount. Both of those mounts will lift the mirror up a bit from the top of the windshield and put it in a great position. I have had tower mount mirrors before, and I like the windshield mount better, as long as it is set up properly.

I ordered and received today the Nautique mount (3076-OBS) and deluxe oversize mirror (130129) from Nautique Parts. I will get it mounted this week and post up some pictures.

I have always preferred the windshield mount mirror. I have tried numerous times to get used to a tower mounted mirror but for me after so many years of driving boats with windshield mirrors I just couldn't swap. For me tower mounted mirrors require too much of a field of view change for my liking. My windshield mounts were always just to the driver's side off center. What I mean by that is while I am driving a simple glance with just an eye movement takes me from straight ahead to looking back at the action. It's a simple eye movement. With the tower mirror it's mounted a bit higher and also more to my right while driving. I find I have to rotate my head and change my entire field of view. Just seems way too much work and something I just could t get accustomed too.

No doubt PTM mirrors give you some of the best views of any mirror.

I went from a tower (FCT1) mounted mirror to a PTM like the one pictured above although perhaps a little less length on the mount and I can't say there are any real benefits either way as far as the mounting system goes, both mirrors are adjusted to sit just above the wind shield. Field of view obviously PTM wins which is why I have stuck with it.
I will add this though, if you regularly fit a boat cover, you will fit the tower mounted mirror slightly higher up the tower arm giving you room to feed the cover under it, this may put the mirror in a slightly more awkward viewing position than a screen mount unit.

Does the PTM fold down easily under the winshield so you can put the cover on?

I have used both and prefer the tower mount arm with mirror due to not having to lower the windshield mount when I cover the boat. I also like just being able to rotate the mirror to a flat position in a critical instance.

Can you see out to the buoy line in the slalom course with the VR 100 or do you need the VR 140 to see out that wide?

I use the Roswell/Nautique mount with my PTM Edge Pro 140, so yes, it does fold down very easily under the windshield. I believe the new PTM Edge mounts do too, but I know for sure the Nautique/Roswell mount does.

I had a tower mounted mirror on my Malibu and am now loving the windshield mount on my Nautique. I do think windshield mount is the best but it's all a matter of opinion.

Sorry to be the odd ball. But having had both I preferred the tower mount. My newest boat has a windshield mount and I miss the last tower mounted one.

I have the monster tower mount with a ptm edge mirror. The tower mount is solid, easy to remove if need be, and the PTM mirror is the best.

I prefer tower mount simply because it's a little farther away from me than a windshield mount...just more comfortable for viewing. My current mirror is the stock one on my 2015 G23--similar to the PTM (or perhaps it is PTM?). In any event, wide field of view is worth the cost of upgrading, whether or not it's tower or windshield mounted.

I use the Sampson, has 2 adjustable convex mirrors on both edges. It's great for being able to see the rider when they're outside of the wake. I got it from only inboards.com
