I had the basic CIPA windshield mount when I first got my boat and I ended up switching to the tower mount and I like it much better. I found that the mirror impeded my forward vision more than I liked when I had the mount on the driver side windshield. It worked well from the center section of the walk through windshield but that meant it had to be closed when towing and passengers would hit their heads on the mirror when the walk through was open. The newer PTM/Roswell mounts that lift it up off the windshield help a lot but I still think I prefer a tower mount. Once I got it adjusted correctly I find it to be very similar to looking up at the rear view mirror in a car. Here is the mount that I went with and I think the articulation really helped to get the mirror in the right spot and level and allow the arm to look good.

If you are wanting black then I would check into this as it seems to be almost the same:

I ordered the 1.75" clamp when my boat had the original 97-99 FCT and it worked great with a thin rubber shim which I prefer to use in order not to scratch up the powder coat. When I replaced that tower with a New Dimensions Tower the 1.75" clamp wouldn't fit so I ordered a 2" one and it fit perfectly with a thin rubber shim. I am not sure if my NDT ended up thicker than 1.75" because I had it powder coated (at the factory) but just wanted to give you a heads up on clamp sizing. you may want to check this out before ordering so you are sure you get the right size: http://www.bulletlines.com/Wakeboard...-Size-s/38.htm

I guess I'm undecided since I have both a windshield mounted mirror and a tower mounted mirror on my boat. I usually set one up to see behind me on one side of the boat with the other lined up to see the other side, and of course overlap in the middle. My wife who's the 2nd driver (my personal driver really) likes the tower mounted one better since she's shorter and the windshield mounted mirror gets in her field of view. We'll see how it goes this season, since I bought an eye-rizer cushion from Chirstine's...
