Prop bag for 17" propeller?

I got a spare propeller for my G23. The standard propeller is the 2561 and is a 17 inch prop. For fun, I decided to get the 2569 'high altitude prop which is the same size and pitch, but with less cup. I'm not sure that was really necessary, but I thought it would be nice to do a head to head comparison. I will post up a review when I finally swap it out. For now the current prop seems pretty decent. I was having some troubles planing out with just stock ballast and 3 people on board, but found my NCRS was turned off. With it on, it planes much better. It would plane out, but had an annoyingly long time to get there, especially between 15-18 MPH. With NCRS auto feature turned on, it is what I would expect.

Regardless, my weekend saver bag from acme is way too small for a prop of this size. I don't want the propeller laying around naked in the storage compartment, and wondered if anyone else has any suggestions on a bag that might work?

I would leave it in the box. The box that Acme sends them in is not that much bigger than the prop itself, and it provides great protection.

And on the planing, make sure if you don't have a user chosen from the user list in the LINC system, that you always select Back to Dock. This keeps NCRS turned on and makes the boat operate much better than if NCRS is off. I would also recommend leaving the NCRS auto setting in high instead of low.

By the way, I hope you got your spare from Delta Props. Their pricing on the 17" prop for the G-series is $726 with our discount. That's WAY better than anywhere else I have seen.

Arrgh! I should have come to PN first. That is a better price. Since OJ and Acme directly pretty well quoted me MSRP, I was happy to get anything less from Valley propeller. Lesson learned.

I did not realize the NCRS had both low and high settings, I will find that feature and engage it in the high setting. Obviously, I was not too tuned in to the NCRS setting at all. Thanks for the advice.

The box will be a good short term option. Invariably, it will get some sprinkles of water on it an start to disintegrate. Acme told me that they will be making a bigger bag for their weekend saver kit, but that it is not the highest priority now that summer boating is almost in full swing. So probably during the winter. I suspect the box will get me through at least one season.

With auto NCRS it should be at 0 at idle then go up to your desired wave plate crank one you achieve your speed control setting.

Reminds me... Nautique engineers said they'd have a software flash for auto NCRS to work for surfing also.... Anybody's auto NCRS work for surfing??

Can you tell us what the difference is between low and high in regards to NCRS and when it makes sense to use each? Lots to learn.

What's the process to order through Delta Props and get discount?

Truth told, I don't think there's ever a reason I would use the low setting. As heavy as these boats are, I would always want NCRS automatically adjusting at its most aggressive setting possible all the time. Even the factory guys say to use it set like that.

To get the Delta discount, just go through the order process, and on the last page before you enter your payment info, there is a field to enter the discount code. Enter DP9PNA and you'll get the discount. You can see the new total before entering your payment info.

I am pretty sure that the NCRS just puts the trim tab in the down position so that I do not get as much bow rise when trying to plane out with full ballast. Although that creates drag on the plate, it pushes the rear up and the front down, maximizing the running surface and making it plane easier. I can feel the attitude of the boat change as I get close to the target speed and the NCRS then returns to the up position and that beautiful wake takes shape. In my case, the rider setting was to have the plate all the way up. The Auto feature just pushed the plate down until I reached the target speed. I hope that makes sense.

I am not sure it would be of any benefit for getting up to surf speeds, as that is not a problem.

I am in disagreement with all of you on this. After my ~300hrs on Gs, this is what I know for FACT, there really isn't any interpretation to this:

NCRS at 0 = lower RPM, faster launch, bow lower, smaller wake.

NCRS at 5 = requires higher RPMs, slower launch, bow higher, bigger wake. 23MPH will full 2850 OEM ballast, NCRS 5 requires almost 200rpm more compared to NCRS 0.


The auto NCRS works great for wakeboading. NCRS 0 at idle for a fast launch then cranks up to the desired setting for the bigger wake. Nautique still hasn't done an auto-NCRS software update to allow the Auto-NCRS to work with the NSS for surfing. And yes, the difference between NCRS 5 and NCRS 0 at 11.6mph is about 200rpms, its significant in gas usage and speed of launch.

I would have pitched this as a question to Bill during the last CEO interview, but we didn't get input on questions, and Bill's interview was towards new buyers vs PN owners' interests.

Please clarify what you disagree with. To be sure I understand, we are saying the same thing about wakeboarding, at least I agree with what you said above.

You mean you disagree that NCRS auto setting would be not as useful for surfing? It seems like I reach target speed so quickly while surfing, that the NCRS would be less valuable. NOT useless, but less valuable.

Since I only figured it out on my last outing, I can't claim anything for sure, but the gas consumption seemed much less with the Auto feature activated, but we were not surfing at all.

Not sure why you would want an auto NCRS setting for surfing. NCRS is one of the two things that you adjust to shape the surf wave (NCRS and NSS). Setting NCRS up as auto would eliminate that adjustability.

Why do you want AUTO NCRS for wakeboarding? Same reasons.

I absolutely want auto NCRS for surfing, based on where ever I set it. Most of the time NCRS 4. At idle, it'd be at 0, then when I achieve the set speed of 11.6 it cranks NCRS from 0 to 4. Quicker and easier launch. Same concept as with wakeboarding, and you can Still adjust it.

why when NCRS is auto position - the link screen does not show the NCRS moving and what position it is in? That would be nice

When you are surfing, and manually changing the position to clean up the wave-it shows what position it is in as you move it.

Did you ever get around to trying the 2569? Was thinking of doing the same thing when I buy spare prop. More concerned about rpm's at surf speeds.

I never got around to swapping out the prop. It is not all that big of a difference in pitch, so I do not think it would likely create that many more RPM. I think for my elevation, (2700 feet) I would not worry about swapping it out unless I were wakeboarding with substantial weight above stock. For surfing, I don't think I can imagine not being able to get up to 12 MPH no matter how much weight I have.
