I have a 2012 200V with a black tower. When traveling a significant distance, I used wrap the tower in pallet wrap to prevent bugs and such from messing up the tower paint finish. In the past year It was suggested to me to use painters tape as it has low tack and much less of a mess to put on and take off. Sounded like a great idea to me........ After returning from the weekend last night. I went to remove the painters tape and some little spots of the tower paint came off. The tower has plenty of wax on it to give another barrior. The tape was only on for a max of 2hrs. this time. It has worked great up until this point, not sure why or how the tape would pull off powder coated paint but I NEED to get it fixed! Any suggestions? Will post pictures later as I am now at work......

Here are the pictures. I am just not sure why or how this paint pulled off?? I could see if I had used a very tacky tape like duct tape or something.
Any suggestions on touching the paint up? Any chance there was some sort of powder coating issue back then that someone knows about. Very puzzled!!2 Photos

I can tell you for certain the 2013-2014 shiney towers aren't powder coat, they are enamel paint.
lools similar to the rack issues with paint in the other thread.2019 G23 450

I would just tape it off, scuff it a little and spray with a rattle can. If you can find a paint that is a close match, I'm willing to bet it will be hard to find where it peeled off. That may be a temporary fix to a bigger problem though.

They changed the finish to a textured one after my 2012, not sure if it's actually more durable but I'm sure this had something to do with the change. I have a bunch of chips from stones kicked up while trailering plus my Z5 brackets slipped down on my tower while towing once and really made a mess of the paint. I'm going to remove the tower when we put the boat away this year and get it resprayed over the winter.
