Can't get on plane unless "back to dock" is enabled after wake surfing.

Let me say that what I am about to explain has happened twice to me so I know I can duplicate this scenario.

Boat is a 2015 G23 550 stock prop

Lets say we are surfing and I am using the wake surf profile but modified the speed, NCRS and NSS setting to my preference and boat ballast is full. Then I get a call and I have to head back to the dock to pick up another person which is a 5-10 minute ride from where we are surfing. I don't want to dump all my ballast, I do turn speed control off, turn off surf and set NCRS to 0. When I try to take off I cannot get on plane and hit maybe 14-18 MPH tops. The fact that I cannot plane off makes no sense to me since speed and surf is turned off and NCRS is set to 0.

To date the only way I have found to get on plane is to select the "back to dock" setting and when it starts to empty my ballast I manually stop it. I apply throttle and can plane off no problem as I head back to the dock to pick up another rider. I "think" that the NCRS is holding me back somehow but visually it is set to 0.

Any ideas on how I can program the boat to allow me to head back to the dock with ballast on board after running the "wake surf" profile?

With NCRS at zero, it is not helping your boat plane off at all. Just set it to back to dock, and answer NO when it asks you if you want to activate the automatic ballast settings.

"Turn off surf..." I did not know you could take the ECM out of surf mode without changing users? The ECM limits speed when you select surf as user to prevent side tab deployment above surf speeds. It sounds this is what you are encountering.

I know my 2013 you have select another user program or the ECM will still limit speed. Or at least I have not discovered another way to change the ECM.

I select any other user and simply manually stop the pumps if I prefer to keep the ballast.
I usually select wakeboard pro since tge ballast settings are similar.

Try setting it to wakeboard pro.

Setting it to wakeboard pro will attempt to turn on the ballast pumps again. You'll get the same question about whether to activate the auto ballast setting, and even if the ballast is full, it'll try to fill them again if you say yes.

Best option is to use the Back to Dock setting and say NO when it asks if you want the auto ballast activated.

Hey Jeff...not to get side tracked, but I believe the NCRS settings are the opposite. NCRS at 0 is the "smallest and most rounded shaped wake" per the manual...which means the plate is extended and providing lift at the rear of the boat. NCRS at 5 is the "largest and most vert shaped wake" which means the rear of the boat is as deep as possible...meaning the plate is retracted. (...Quotes from the manual...I had to look it up because I don't pay so much attention when I'm out and I forget which is which. I have mine set up the way I want it by user rather than using it manually--I haven't played with NCRS settings much since I got the boat)

I'm guessing vision is correct, though I thought the limit was 13mph. The solution is as you mentioned: "Back to Dock" and answer "no" to the ballast setting question.

Related to this...yesterday, I wanted to have the Auto NCRS feature on, but did not want a specific cruise control speed. I could not figure out how to turn the stoopid thing on without engaging a rider preset. I ended up just putting it on 'back to dock' and then increasing the speed to 30 MPH, and I just never went that fast. I was doing it for tubing, where it would be nice to use a little less gas. Maybe I should have just left it off so that the rides would be more brutal and they would say 'uncle' a bit faster. Now that would save me some gas, but doesn't quite build good memories for your teenage girl kids.

To turn off the speed just look on the right side of the home screen. One of the buttons should say "Speed On" with a picture of a gauge. Click that button and it will say "Speed Off". You can do it in any of the presets.

Quick question to follow up with Xrichard's post......Does the "retracted" position of NCRS....which I take it to mean level...flat...NOT extended .........push the rear of the boat DOWN more then when the NCRS is "extended"...pushed down below the hull?? Or....does having the plate down "raise the butt" up in the air because it's pushing more water??Just trying to visualize the physics of this NCRS plate. Thanks.

NCRS is just a computer controlled trim tab. When its extended (0) it pushes the bow down an transom up. When retracted (5) it lets the bow come up and the transom down.

I haven't paid attention to that. I've only done this in "back to dock" with all the ballast empty. But I'll play with it this weekend and see.

You can turn Zero Off (speed control) off at any time without affecting the auto NCRS setting.
