Plastic crash pads vs carpeted pads

I have a 2000 SAN/SS with ram lin trailer. I currently have carpeted crash pads. I like the look of the plastic ones. Does anyone have experience with carpet and plastic? What are your thoughts? Positives, negatives?

the pads on my 03 ramlin are made of 3/4 inch king starboard, cutting board type material. they work perfect and won't deteriorate like carpet. i wouldn't think they'd be hard to make, just getting the king starboard / hdpe is the thing.

Thanks for the reply? Does it affect the rub rail in anyway that you have noticed?

The starboard is the way to go. I have had both and no, the starboard doesn't seem to affect the rub rail. Unless if you slam into it
