I like to use these large Dockmate Hinged Fenders (http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...er&i=87170). I am on my 5th season with these and they are getting close to needing replacement because the eyelet is starting to tear out of one of them but they have worked great for me and seen tons of use. No scratches on my boat while using them. I tie up to a medium height wood dock every weekend that sees some pretty big wave action. When tied up correctly with two of these fenders my boat stays nicely off the dock. I have also traveled and tied up at many other docks and these always work great. They work well for rafting up as well as long as board racks can be swung in. I am sure the inflatable balls work better for rafting up.

Regardless of what type of bumper you go with I highly recommend getting a pair of Fender Tender clips (http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...I-pair&i=34014). These will qiuckly clip securely around cleats and railings and stay put without needing any adjustment. I clip one to the mid-ship cleat and the other around the rear hand rail on my Super Sport. This setup works perfectly for me in every situation I have encountered.

You could use these and ask if you can get them cursed to chase off the traffic.

A friend of my has a house on a lake here in Texas and his docks in a pretty rough part of the lake. I've left my boat tied up over night and in the middle of the day with lots of traffic. Never had a scratch with these deals. Called whips I think. Might not work for your situation but they work good.

I just put whips on our dock, work great, but not just a week. They cost $700 and take a bit to install correctly.

I ordered some buoy balls. That should work just fine.

Cedarcreek216, nice setup with the whips. I hope to be there eventually.

Thanks to everyone that provided some information.

My dock is a pontoon dock. I mounted these on the dock permanently, but you could tie them to your boat. Good for keeping the boat from going under the docks edge

Scott, I'm looking for a pontoon dock or old pontoon boat to turn into a dock. Not much in my area (east side of PA). Anything near you that you are aware of? If you come across anything, please send me a PM and we can exchange info.

                    Dave,

I have used these inflatable fenders against my dock:
                    http://www.boatstogo.com/inflatable_fenders.asp

You can get them up to 5 ft x 18 inch.

                    Cheers!
                    Sanj

Quick follow-up. Got the inflatable rubber buoy balls recommended here and they work great. 2 work well hanging off each cleat. Thanks for everyone's info.
