    Is this a SAN?

EDIT: WARNING WARNING... the guy who owns this boat is INSANE. There's a reason this boat hasn't sold for almost 3 months, and that's because the guy (1) is asking WAY too much money, and (2) he is IMPOSSIBLE to work with, and is VERY SHADY. IMO, stay away from this boat. See my comment later down the thread.

I'm considering going 3 hours to look at this boat.. but it's "missing" a decal, and, while I'm still a bit new to this, I've never seen a SAN with that graphic on the side. One red flag is someone came this weekend, about a 9 hour drive, and did not buy the boat. Also it has been for sale for quite a while, and that seems like another red flag, since it seems like every ad that I've replied to so far, the boat has been sold within a few days.... Seller has been quick to answer questions and seems legit, but something isn't sitting right here.

Price seems decent, not a great deal, but not bad.

    Thoughts?

It's a 210. Could've been a Supersport that was outfitted with the proper accessories to make it a Super air, but not a team edition. The swoopy N was the graphic in 2000-2001 I believe.

Ok, thanks. I'm not sure why this one is causing my spidey sense to tingle... I think I'm going to stay away from it. IMO even if it started as a Supersport, but he outfitted it as a SAN, it's misleading.

I don't know why you would stay away from that boat. While not the deal of a lifetime he's making it out to be it's still decent price and looks clean. In my opinion more often than not going supersport with upgrades gives you some better options usually in the Ballast department. I know a ton of Supersport Nautiques that rolled off the factory floor outfitted identical to a team edition with ballast, perfect pass, tower because they liked the graphics and gel options better. The only reason my senses would be up is due to the fact there are quit a bit of key components replaced. I would definitely ask why. Maybe just being preventative, or possibly boat sat for bit and he needed it up and running.

I think you are doing a huge disservice to yourself eliminating boats based on the trim level alone. The hull, wake and performance are all identical.

The Super Air Nautique was a Supersport/V-drive optioned with Air Graphics, and a Tower IIRC
The Super Air Nautique Team Edition was identical to the Super Air Nautique just with some options standard.....It just had ballast, perfect pass tower, and upgraded stereo as the base package
The Supersport was the base model the Team "non team " edition boats were based off of.

all three of these boats all share the same running surface, engine options, and interior design/configuration. The only things different are the graphics and standard options.

Well, they also gave the number to the dealer they took it too for all the service, give them a call and ask them a few questions (lots of parts, why? Indications of just sitting, i.e. lack of use?).

The ONLY thing I could think that would be a turn off for some is the color of the hull.

that's a good lookin boat, especially if you like the color. i see it only has board racks on one side, so keep that in mind. if you are interested, i would just do the necessary leg work to vet it. also, i would be looking to get it for less than they are asking ...

Its not a bad boat, but better boats can be had for the 28-30k mark. I would not buy this boat due to the color of the hull alone. It would be a hard resale (just ask the current owner). Also, this year was notorious for the bad hour gauges, so the original hours may not be correct. If this boat was closer to 20k it might be worth a look.

Funny, at first I didn't like the color but the more I look at the photos, I like it... I dunno, something just seems "off", especially if it's being presented as a SAN but it isn't. I don't care if it has the same stuff, or even more stuff... I just feel like being misled is wrong.
Also, he's FIRM FIRM on the price, even after I called and said, "look, a guy came all the way from the east coast and didn't buy it, obviously you are asking too much".

If I"m going to drive over 9 hours to see a boat, I'm going to buy it unless I find something WRONG with it, I'm going to negotiate the bottom line price before I go, so no surprises there... I can't imagine someone going that far and then "passing" on the boat just because of color or a minor reason. Something's gotta be wrong...

Super Sport is better than a SAN with tower because you don't have to pull the hard tanks before installing a real ballast system. I would want to know more details about what he means by "ballast system." Does he have a 3-4 ballast puppy system with 2x750 Fly-highs in the rear, a 580 in the belly, and possibly another bag in the nose? If so, that's at least a grand right there in useful upgrades. If not, I would like to know what he installed.

Not sure why he is running Royal Purple synthetic oil, unless he has always run synthetic.

TNT Watersports is the local Nautique dealer. Get the HIN# and see if they have ever serviced the boat. You could pay them to do a marine inspection before you travel 9 hours. Just a thought.

Let me first say always go with you gut on your purchase. If you're not happy from the get go convincing yourself the entire period you own the boat you made the right choice will eat you alive. With that said.

I really think you're missing the differences between what defines a boat as a SAN and a Super Sport. That boats gelcoat scheme is consistent with a SAN, the options are consistent with a SAN, the ballast ports on the side of the boat are consistent with a factory ballasted SAN.........the only way to truly know is actually call the dealership to verify the hull ID or ask the seller. Did he say it was a SuperSport when you asked? Lots of people will list Super Sports with all the wakeboard options as SAN's anyways. This is because people are always looking for SAN's and are familiar with the name. It doesn't mean their misrepresenting the boat at all. They are just appealing to more buyers in a search. Personally knowing all the issues with the factory systems back in the day I would almost prefer a Super Sport that has a custoe ballast system with reversible pumps anyways. Much more efficient than the original factory system. Again the boat is consistent with everything SAN related. I know tons of people who pulled their decals off these particular "N" swoosh boats for a much cleaner look. Doesn't change the fact of what the boat is. I am not trying to push you to this particular boat in any way, Just trying to help you in your search and give you as much info to help you in your purchase.

The one issue that you run into when looking nationally for boats is losing a bit of your negotiating power. Negotiating via phone and email is much easier to decline by the seller because they " feel" you're not a serious buyer. The cash in hand rule kind of flies out the window. When it's local your negotiating skills I think jump up a bit because showing up with a check or cash in your hand and selling it right there and then is much harder to decline as a seller who wants to move his boat.

Here is what an actual 2001 SAN looks like graphics wise.

Hmm, ok cool. I guess I could call the actual dealer, I didn't realize they were a Nautique dealer. I was scared maybe I'd end up getting his brother or something. I'm not "in love" with the color, but I don't think it's horrendous.

I still think it's weird that someone drove so far and then passed on buying it. Maybe he thought he could negotiate him down a bit, but it just seems like maybe he found something wrong... I'll do some more research.

FWIW... TNT Watersports is a great dealer. I've not personally dealt with a boat from them, but have visited their store, annual wakeboard contests, and visit their booth at the Nashville boat show every year. They are good guys and if they have serviced the boat should be of assistance.
