That's pretty cool that Eric went over to your boat and turned pumps on for u. Why were they turned off? Initially it seems to me perhaps between u and the dealer maybe communication was broken down a bit. Maybe u and them both assumed some things that shouldn't have been assumed.

Didn't u leave your past boats in the slip with the pumps on auto? Again not to place blame but it does seem like it's your responsibility here that the boat flooded. U knew it was leaking and left it sitting in a slip unattended and apparently with pumps off?? Now again as I've said before they collected a massive amount of money to "fix" this and it's not fixed? That's this issue I think. Again not saying u messed up the strainer but u should have done something to get your leak figured out. Whether that be pull boat out of water or watch it like a hawk or stick your own head in there and find the leak yourself, u needed to do something other than just call the dealer and say it's got a leak.

I would think that if the strainer was cross-threaded at the factory the water leakage would have been noticed when Nautique does their water test during the manufacturing process. Assuming all was well (strainer correctly threaded and NOT leaking) and the boat passed final inspection at the factory then the next time the strainer SHOULD have been looked at would be during dealer acceptance from the factory (as part of an overall check before any water tests / demos). Again assuming the strainer was correctly threaded and NOT leaking then how does it become cross-threaded post-purchase?

A big red flag for me is the mention of the fact that the lake you operate on has a mud bottom and that you apparently beach your boat on the mud bottom. Given how powerful the RWP is I can only imagine that upon starting the engine while beached is going to cause the pump to ingest a considerable amount of mud, sand and debris. All this is going to collect in the strainer eventually clogging it and reducing water flow to the engine. Once this happens the strainer must be unscrewed and cleaned. This may also explain your high engine temp warnings.

I am concerned we are all being taking for a ride here and being given a small sampling of facts but not the full story.

Since you've had an opportunity to state the facts as you recall them and you've received responses both in support of and in question of your situation it is now time for you to go away. Your problem is not going to get solved on this forum. If you believe you have a negligence case against the dealer you should seek competent legal representation and pursue justice in a court of law.

If your goal was to elicit opinions and solutions to your predicament from the forum members, then you have achieved that to the degree in which you have (or have not) correctly stated the facts at hand. In either case I doubt there is anything more we can do for you here, so please go away and enjoy your boat.

This one has grown pretty quickly for sure.

I have removed a couple of posts that clearly violated the terms of use. There are a few others that are questionable, but I think I'll leave them for now as long as it doesn't get too crazy.

I can't believe that I just read all 5 pages.

Here is my understanding of what happened: There was a leaky water strainer on the boat, and he left the boat on the dock and shut off the batteries as many people do who leave their boats without planning on using them for a while. Boats are notorious for small electrical gremlins that will give you dead batteries. How many times do you guys see people at the ramp with dead batteries? I have seen it more times than I can count. With the batteries off, the bilge pump no longer works, and he gets his boat full of water.

Dealer thinks he is a DA for shutting off the batteries when he knew he had a leak somewhere. He thinks dealer should have told him so, and that they should have found the leak in the first place.

One of my off season improvements will be to wire the bilge pumps like they should have been from the factory. I find it unbelievable that Nautique does not wire the bilge pumps directly to the batteries so that they could never be turned off. Imagine the pain and suffering that all sides have suffered because Nautique does not do this simple thing! My MC was wired straight to the battery, my Tige was too. My Malibu was not, so Nauti is not alone, but they are also not in line with at least a couple of others. I hope that they will fix this in future years. Maybe Foster's Supra was wired straight to the battery so maybe he never imagined he was removing his boat's life support when he cut the switch.
