How will a 2000 Air compare to my 90 Supra Comp (to be sold)

    Hi,
I've had a 1990 Supra Comp for the last 6 years and am ready to upgrade the boat. I'm convinced (at least through reading here and elsewhere) that a ~2000 - 2002 Air Nautique would be a good crossover boat for me, I'm just getting into 36 mph on the course (when I can find time on one), usually recreationally ski in the mornings and like to wakeboard in the evenings. What I haven't been able to do is get on the water behind one of the air nautiques, have been hard to locate. Can anyone compare / contrast the wakes between the 90 supra and an Air / Sport Nautique from 99-02 (my price range). I'm sure it will have better capabilities wakeboarding but how about slalom comparisons at various rope lengths?
    Thanks!

Do you want to ski or wake board?

Half and Half, probably a bit more on the waterski side but I've been really frustrated with the Supra's ability to wakeboard, and it is too much of a pain to deal with sacks and the stupid pole all the time.

I used to have a 98 sport/air with the total surface control hull. I had the internal ballast tankst o fill for wakeboarding. I do not ski much but a buddy that use to go out with me skiied and barefooted. He loved the wake it was almost non existant at that speed with the tanks empty. When we filled the ballast tanks and slowed to about 21-22 there was a great wake for boarding. We eventually got to where we were adding sacks too, the wake was great.

I have skied the course behind a 2000 sport naut. I'd rather not do it, unless its the only boat available. Even at 36 it has quite a bump at 15 and 22' off. Never ran 28 behind it.

I'll probably get in trouble for this but IMHO a Malibu Sunsetter LXI on the Diamond hull in the same years will give you a MUCH better slalom wake, and with a wedge, a decent boarding wake. I dont like the SLXI as much, but it sure skis well for a large boat. I think Edwin would probably be one of the few that would agree with me on this board. I have also heard good things, but have no personal experience, about a Supra launch with the adjustable wake plate.

As I was reading his post, I was thinking even a Response LX if he wants to go with a lower budget. Both the RLX and SLXI will be better crossover boats from what I've heard and experienced. Even though the RLX is a real slalom machine, the wedge might give it that versitility for a little boarding.

Thanks, did take your advice and picked up an '04 Response lxi. I'm sure the Nautique would have been sweet too but I was having a very hard time finding the right one. The bu has a great ski wake and will get it set for wakeboarding in the next few months, has a wedge plate.
                Thanks for the advice!

I had a 98 air nautique because I wanted to do both. Boat had ski pole, tower and factory ballast, wake board wake wasn't real big but it had a great shape and transition. With a fat sack in the rear locker and one in the floor, the wake was really good for mid engine boat. My son learned Raley's Backrolls, tantrums 3's and 5' even a crow mobe. I was over 35 and only had to ski 34mph but ran into 35 off easily behind the boat and sometime into 38' off. IMO, it is one of the best dual purpose boats

The 96-99 Air nautiques were built on the TSC2 hulls, I believe. I have a 99 SNOB and love the wake. Do not wakeboard, but for slalom, I think it is as good or better than the TSC3.

skijones, the TSC2 didn't come about until 2002. The original TSC was in 97. IIRC
                      I don\'t care.
