What year did the factory change over from aerator pumps to reversible impeller pumps?

I have a 2004 SV211 and the starboard side ballast pump was replaced by the dealer with a new pump last year and now the water exits the starboard ballast out the bottom rather than where it originally emptied at the starboard rear side. Is this because of the new pump? Or did the dealer just make it a simple fix?

Your dealer simplified it - sort of - as you now have a single pump to fill and drain. However, as you pointed out, your dealer also complicated it as you can't see when the tank is finished draining forcing you to keep your eye on the tank gauge. Make sure with the reversible pump you don't run it dry for any length of time or you will damage / destroy the impeller.
I'd ask your dealer why he did what he did. Should have been an easy cartridge replacement on your broken aerator pump assuming that was the problem.

In recent years, the impeller style pumps have an overheat sensor and will shut off automatically before the impeller burns up. I have seen them shut off when I forgot to do so, but I would not trust it to do so every time.
They call it 'run dry' protection. http://www.wakemakers.com/jabsco-bal...oard-pump.html
