Nope, it is relativly safe if handled properly.

Sure you must take care and not handle lead without some form of protection, but them again there are other things that are more deadly. I would bet most of us are exposed to more harmful bacteria in the lakes we boat on that would cause us more harme than properly handled lead.

        Any1972,

No worries unless your kids are licking uncoated lead bricks or snacking from plastic jugs of tire balancing weights. I won't lie, though, the same thought has crossed my mind.

Ours are covered with Rhino Lining. Don't have a worry in the world unless the lining cracks/peels. Also works well when stacking as it fits/holds on the block underneath. Also, doesn't slide around.

Also, you could always paint the lead pipes so that it won't get on you or everything else.

We race Quarter Midget race cars with my kids and the organization requires us to have all of our lead weights wrapped in duct tape.......they say to help protect the kids from the lead. For what it is worth it may be the peace of mind you are looking for. Eric

Another use for duct tape, how did they settle this country without it!

I cover mine with Plutonium. Thus, no lead concerns; unless D. Cheney is hunting from the boat!

Risk Vs. Reward. After your over 40 who cares. Is a bigger wake via Lead ballast really worth the increased risk of an already risk prone activity. **** why wear life jackets its only water.
