I'm not feeling the love for the 5.3L motor that torque number has to be pretty high in the power band.

Ps wonder why they never went with the raptor motors they look like a nice alternative.

i do think the new PCM 5.3l and 6.2l are the better engines.

Probably because Correct Craft owns PCM (the Raptor motors are either owned or marinized by Indmar). Would probably look bad if they stuck a competitor's engine in their flagship models.

It is confirmed, only 550 engines and those that have costal packages will be closed cooled. The H5 and H6 engines are all water cooled.

Disappointing. Heaters actually work with the closed cooling and winterizing them is a breeze.

That is a huge disappointment. The closed cooling is great for the heater and potentially the engine block. My 2013 is slowly becoming more valuable.

I thought all marine engines were water cooled. I just checked and it appears mine is too. LOL.

Has anybody been in a g23 with the H5 yet? My family is considering buying a G23 and are curious if the H5 can get the job done if we are adding extra ballast.

If you are adding extra ballast on top of the stock, then I would highly recommend stepping up to at least the H6 (450hp). Not sure the H7 (550hp) is necessary (although wouldn't hurt, except in the wallet area), but I feel the H6 would be extremely beneficial for anything over stock ballast, or even under stock ballast for that matter

Thanks Beg4, we just received an order form an saw that the G23 comes standard with the H5 this year. I have never been in a G with anything smaller than the 450 an our dealer hast tested out the new H5 either.

H6 ought to be standard engine and will perform well with factory ballast and extra. You'll have a tough time selling a G23 with the H5 on down the road if the buyer is an informed consumer.

You can check out the Specifications link for each of the new engines on the page linked below.

You are correct, the H5/L83 is a revy engine, only 300 lb-ft off idle, needs about 2.5K rpm to break 350 lb-ft, and peaks out at 4,100 rpms.

For a comparison the 5.7 has over 350 lb-ft off idle, and stays above that until about 4K rpms with peak tq at 3,200 rpms. According to the 2003 Nautique brochure (page 33), it also produces over 430 ft/lbs peak. http://www.planetnautique.com/Correc...03/2003bro.pdf

I guess a test drive is really the only way to know how it will do.

Aluminum blocks and heads I guess negate the "need" for a closed cooling system? Will these be the first aluminum block marinized engines? I can almost hear blocks cracking this winter...

I'm surprised by the move to open cooling. From an engineering standpoint I would think having better control over internal heat would be a big plus in controlling emissions performance and fuel economy.
