I attached several photos, and hopefully put a caption with each. Last night I lowered the cutting board to the little step on the side of the hull, should be some difference, but only lowered 3/4" or so. With my impact driver at the river it takes about a minute to install. I also will make another one this week with a 20 degree angle from the boat to see what that does.

Nice job mate and thanks for the pics. What a huge difference it makes with this in place. I like how you have routed out for the lip of the platform. Is there something at the front of clamping plates between the gap in the platform and the transom to prevent it from moving back? If not, did it slip back at all when using or does the clamping and routing prevent this? Can you post some pics of it off the boat? What is the current angle out from the boat? It looks as though you have vertically angled the cutting board to the same as the hull. Yes? Are the pics after you lowered the board 3/4" or have you not tested that setup yet? When you refer to 750lbs in rear does that mean you have stock ballast tank and something like the fly high Wedge Sac as well? I have no idea what the capacity of the factory rear tanks are. Very interested hearing about your results for your next setup. Please keep me posted.

Nice job mate and thanks for the pics. What a huge difference it makes with this in place. I like how you have routed out for the lip of the platform. Is there something at the front of clamping plates between the gap in the platform and the transom to prevent it from moving back? the clamping force and the routed groove have worked so far. If not, did it slip back at all when using or does the clamping and routing prevent this? no slippage that I can tell, but there are 3/8" bolts. Can you post some pics of it off the boat? I'm going to make a 20 degree angle one this week, so I will post some dis-assembled pics. What is the current angle out from the boat? 15 degrees but the new one will be 20 degrees, some people on this site or others say 20 appears to be the optimal angle. the angle is based off centerline of the boat. It looks as though you have vertically angled the cutting board to the same as the hull. Yes? 19 degrees Are the pics after you lowered the board 3/4" or have you not tested that setup yet? Have not tested in the lowered position When you refer to 750lbs in rear does that mean you have stock ballast tank and something like the fly high Wedge Sac as well? I pulled the stock hard tanks, and replaces with High Fly Sacs, and new pumps. I have no idea what the capacity of the factory rear tanks are. Very interested hearing about your results for your next setup. Please keep me posted

Thanks for the info, looking forward to hearing the results of the 20 degree version. Pardon my ignorance but aren't the fly high wedge sacs designed to sit on top of the stock hard tanks?

What type of foam sheet did you use? And how did you glue it to the back?

I used the foam cabinet shelf liner that you can find at Home Depot or other home improvement stores. Glued it on with 3M contact cement. Need to have a pretty aggressive adhesive to bond with HDPE.

                  Srewpusher,

Have you tried the lowered plate as yet? Interested in hearing about your results.

                  Thanks in advance,
                  Dave

Screwpusher, can you please tell me what the thickness of each of the timber pieces you used are? I'm going to make something similar all in HDPE and want to order my pieces. Thanks.

Anyone seen or know about the Eight.3 WakeShaper? Can pre-order for $599. Expensive compared to these builds!

Sorry for the late response, went fishing one weekend, and have not read this topic in 3 weeks. When I lowered, no huge difference, and the 20 degree angle helped some, but I was in a large lake with white caps, so surfing was difficult at best.

The top board is 3/4" plywood
The spacer is 1.75" Laminated veneer lumber (really thick plywood used in flooring)
Bottom board was 1.5" pine scrap wood.
Routed a 3/8" groove that matched the curvature of the platform
Then 2 sets of bolts, washers, and "T" nuts

It only take 2-3 minutes to install with my cordless impact driver, but I do like the wedge idea that sticks to the side of the boat. The suction cups is also good idea. You are ahead of me on the HDPE, the wood soaks up water and I found it also molds, so that will be a winter project.

Much appreciate the info ScrewPusher. The new Wakesurfer Shaper from Eight.3 I posted above seems pretty simple and can be used on both sides as well. Still quite expensive for what you get at $US599. It would be easy enough to manufacture yourself once dimensions were provided. How did you accurately calculate the angle of surf gate in relation to the boat (15 or 20 deg) as it was mentioned in a previous post that it is from the centre line of the hull?

Also, found this on a Malibu forum (dare I say it) where he used a "Ten Eighty Skateboard Ramp" as the shaper and velco to attach to side of boat very similar to Wakesurf shaper. Ingenious stuff from him seeing the ramp cost a total of $US24! See link below.
