    Demo G23

I currently have a 2013 Malibu 23lsv that is beginning to have the dreaded maliview issues. I'm currently at 208 hrs. I'm considering trading up to a G23, but a new one is out of range financially. My dealer has this demo G23 for sale now:

    http://www.wizardlakemarine.com/bran...-g23-reef-blu/

Seems pretty loaded, apart from the dual axle trailer. We do trailer a lot, would this stop you from getting it? Our tow vehicle is a one ton diesel if that helps.
Also, what are some things to look out for or known issues on the G series. I've read a lot about the superior quality of Nautiques vs Malibu's, but I don't want to assume anything! Thanks for any insight you may provide.

have you tried looking in Alberta. There are a few 14 and 15 models a lot cheaper, with less hours. I know there are some guys that are hurting there so there are some good deals.

I live in Christina lake do you ever come this way much?

No issues at all. My only comment is that the first issue (2013) had a thinner axle that gave somme problems. 2014 and later work perfect.

Is your concern dual axle v. triple axle? If so, I wouldn't worry. However, you'll want to make sure you're happy with the weight ratings of the trailer and the axles on the trailer...those are the issues.

Triple v. dual is just a matter of personal preference....and most will prefer dual because both the initial cost and ongoing maintenance costs are less. In addition, you get less tire scrubbing in tight radius turns with a dual axle...which may or may not be a concern depending on your use. It's a huge deal for me given how I store mine.

Shockthis, yes we are at Christina. We have a boat access cabin on the NW end of the lake. Do you live right in Christina Lake?

Yes, my concern would be if a triple axle trailer is required for a boat of this weight. I'm not sure what the weight rating of the dual axle is, but I thought read somewhere that the triple was recommended if you did any kind of towing with the G23, which I do. Thanks for the input everyone!

This one was on kijiji from a while back here in Calgary - although I"m not sure if it's still available though since it was posed over a month ago. It has the 450 instead of the 550 - We have the 450 and I've never found it lacking in power.

Keep in mind the 550 requires premium fuel.

Thankfully the marina on our lake now carries premium!

One of the reasons I am looking at the 550 is that I do not want to be limited by adding weight to achieve a great surf wave. With our LSV (that has surf gate) we surf with all of the ballast tanks full (only 1250lbs in an LSV), plus 1100 lbs in each rear locker, plus 1000 lbs in the nose, plus 400 lbs on the floor in the middle of the boat. This produces a very nice surf wave at 11.6mph. We have the 409 motor and a 2315 prop that does okay. With all that weight, the boat totals 9000lbs. Stock a G23 with all of its ballast full is already close to that without having added any extra weight yet. I've read that to produce a really good surf wave on the G23 that you really do need to add some ballast, so I do not want to be limited. Hope that makes sense.

What has your experience been for surfing the G23? How much weight over stock do you run? Thanks again for everyone's insight, much appreciated!

I've never gone beyond stock and don't plan to since we can get 15-20' back easily and my back calf gets sore because I'm always on my back foot. It's also nice to keep all our storage. As far as power, the 450 gets it to 11.6 in no time - not sure exactly how long but the zero-off beeps within a few seconds. We've had 10+ people in the boat and there doesn't seem to be any difference. I've heard the 2:1 vdrive they changed to in 2014 really helped.

Wakeboarding is a little different - I do notice it takes a bit longer with the ballast full and think it would struggle with a couple thousand more pounds. Again the wake is already too big for me.

It's only recommended by those who really want a triple axle. Dual axle can handle the weight with capacity to spare (just look at all the dual axle trailers out there with 10k lb + GVWR ... large TT and fifth wheels, small multi-car trailers, etc). Generally, the axles will have a tag on them with the weight rating and the trailer should have a tag with the GVWR. IMHO, the disadvantages of triple far outweigh dual assuming both are spec'd with adequate capacity.

That one on Kijii is only 104K US dollars if the .76 exchange rate I just googled is correct. That would be a very solid deal. The first one is 117K USD. I would not let mine go for 104K, but less than 117.

I think you cannot go wrong with a 2015 G23. Some guys get an even greater wave with additional ballast, but I use my storage space too much. I would be willing to bet that the G stock wave will approach what your LSV does with all of those sacks everywhere. As far as engine goes, I've never had a problem getting to surf speeds on any boat I have owned. The real use for the 550 would be if you wanted to wakeboard with supplemental ballast. I am confident that I could put 2,000 pounds on top of stock ballast and still surf just fine.

                        This is my brothers boat.....

Between the 2 of us we typically buy a new boat every year and this is our first Nautique.., We initially ordered a new 2015 Malibu 22 VLX and took delivery. It was equipped with the 410 and the 2315 Prop as well. We put about 10 hours on it and was not happy with the way it performed at all compared to the 14 VLX we had. We have Owned 2005, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 Malibu VLX's. Always had to add a bow sac. So we took it back up to Wizard and traded it on this G23. Everyone LOVES the G23.... It would have to be a **** of a deal to go back to Malibu.... This is the first boat that we Surf with just the STOCK ballast and are happy with the wave. There is WAY more power with the 450 and the 2:1 Transmission and we have loaded the boat up pretty well with people. The 550 is a gas guzzler and requires premium fuel plus the extra cost was not justified...

As far as the boat goes it is still for sale if you want any info. The dual axle trailer tows great so no concerns there at all. I have towed a triple as well and didn't notice a difference with my F350 Diesel. The trailer is a Boatmate with that new Powder Coat finish and is an awesome trailer... We have towed it to BC a couple of times now so we tow ours alot as well.. There are a couple of options it does not have including Under Water swim lights and the LED Cupholders. However Nautique Pre Wires for both of those so they are easy to install. We have put about 65 hours on the G23 and it has ran flawlessly. The boat is in absolutely new condition still as were all of our boats when we sold them. You will not regret the Upgrade to the g23 at all... We sure haven't

Yeah I was checking out this boat myself, but finally bought from our local dealer here in Montreal. I can't believe that boat didn't sell yet, it's really beautiful.
