G25 - Info on this boat

I have a deal struck on a 2013 G25 550 with 157 hours at Long Lake Marina. Deal is subject to a water test and personal inspection tomorrow. I would provide a link but they already took it down off their website. The boat was up for sale by Silver Sands Marina (Mastercraft dealer) early this year unitl the owner moved it back over to Long Lake. Here is link from when it was at Silver Sands

I wonder if anyone in the Long Lake area knows of this boat and if it was well cared for? Also, would be interested in experience with Long Lake Marina. They seem reputable and trustworthy over the phone. They have assured me that the boat has never been in salt and was only used on Long Lake. Boat has not been out all of 2015. Was bought as a holder in 2014 by a family that has a kid that is serious or semi-pro wakeboarder. They switched over to MC in 2015 thus the reason the boat was listed by Silver Sands. My only two concerns are the posibility it was used by a teen although Long Lake says no. They say the father drove the G25 always. Again, I have no reason to doubt that.

Of bigger concern is that Long Lake only shows 1 oil change in the service records at 150 hours. They verbally told me there was an oil change at 50 hours but it wasnt in the service records because it was part of the original sale. If that is true, it sounds like they blew past the 25 hour break in oil change and got to it at 50 hours. And then missed the 100 hour oil change. All the hours were in 2014. Thoughts on the missing oil change and not following reccomendations to a T? I know on autos people stretch at times but I am not one of those people. Little nervous but wonder if I am overthinking it. Thanks

I have the build sheet and it matches the pics. I think that was just a sloppy posting by Silver Sands

Oil changes are very important. Maybe you can track previous owner down and get more info. If they claim they changed oil themselves there ought be a receipt for 1-2 oil filters. I do feel that the first oil change is the most important one. You'll have a warranty but if this is going to worry you then pass on it and find the "right" one for you.

Isn't break in oil change on these engines now 50 and not 25 hours?

For 2015 my manual said first oil change at 25 hours. I am not sure if the 550 could have said different.

As much as I troll these websites, it is amazingly few the failures that I see in boat engines that can be traced back to not changing the oil. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but I would not be too concerned about it. I know that there are multiple failures in the analogy...but if this were a car and you had an average speed of 70 MPH, then 50 hours equals 3500 miles. Makes it not seem quite so bad to be a slacker on the oil changes.

Thanks Tall. I was just curious. My mechanic at the dealer told me 50hrs on my new G21 w/409 for first oil change. In the past I remember doing about 30 or so on my last two 226's with 343's. I'm at 45 now...so i'll probably take it in soon.

And remember, just because there isn't a service record or a receipt, doesn't mean it wasn't done. I'm trading in a 2008 XStar now on a new G23 and have kept all of the service receipts that I've had on the boat. When I went back to look at them, no engine hours were recorded anywhere!! I did start keeping a log though when I started changing the oil myself. $40 to do it myself compared to the $150 they charge at the marina, plus peace of mind knowing it was done right! And as stated above, though the oil changes are important, you will rarely see an engine failure due to an overdue oil change. Now if it were at like 300 hours with only one oil change, then I'd be a little concerned.

Well, I looked at the boat today and after addressing a reasonable punch list the boat is coming to Texas. Got what I think is smoking, great deal and the guys at Long Lake were awesome. I'm admittedly picky and they stepped up and answered every question. James and Jon were great to deal with. Straight shooters and good folks. From what I saw today, do not hesitate to deal with these guys.

A bit awkward since I was discussing a purchase with them and they have my boat for sale but I even discussed the deal with my local dealer (Buxton). They helped out with reviewing the engine diamcom. They too are awesome. Phil and the team there at Buxton just continue to impress me.

So excited to get the boat and take it out a time or two before pickling it for the winter.
