Scratched Gelcoat on Swim Platform

The swim platforms on my boats get a little scratched up pulling riders all year. This year it picked up a few more scratches than normal, and also rubbed on a dock on a very windy day for a few minutes before I ran down and stopped it. It is time for this awesome boat to go to its new owner, and I want it as perfect as it can be before it goes.

I had my friend Walt at North Lake Fiberglass give the platform a once-over, and it looks brand new now. Glad to have him around!

If you have fiberglass or gelcoat needs around Lake Norman, I highly recommend North Lake Fiberglass!

Looks great Jeff. Did he use a gel coat repair kit like I mentioned recently that could be bought form Nautique Parts or something else. My platform is whit so the little black spots show up even more.

He mixes his own gelcoat color by hand. He didn't use one of the patch kits.

Did you have to take the seadek off as well? I have a bunch of scratches on my G23 platform.

Nope. They were able to work around it.

One of the many reasons I opted for building a '16 over buying a leftover '15....extended seadek to minimize this! Your man does good work though! That was some serious scrubbing!

I put vantage clear film around the edges. It is pretty tedious to trim and fit on the radius's but at the end of the season when the film is beat up, just pull it off and clean up a little adhesive residue and it looks as good as new.

I'm trying to find someone local to do the same thing to my swim platform. I'm a little ocd about keeping the boat perfect and the swim platform has some light scuffs from boards. Not as bad as that pic though. How much did it cost to bring it back to like-new condition?

I think he charged like $100. He had to add some gel to the bad area, and he just buffed the rest.

What kills me is you cannot sit in those seats or on a sun pad in an inboard but you can surf behind it?? Always busting my buddies balls about this who is lake patrol. His comment was it sets a bad example for I/Os. Surfing doesn't????
