whats the difference between a lift and hoist? to me a lift has the carpet slabs you drive onto like a trailer . and a hoist has the two straps hanging down. Please some info

I am trying to compare a cradle lift to a sling lift...................... dealers have told me so much weight is to the back of the boat that cradle lifts are recommended . thoughts please

We have an 8k lift that is cable driven mounted on pilings. This stays in all year, just raise the cradle out of the water. There are two motors, one drives the front and one for the rear, cable goes down thru pulleys across all open under galvanized steel cradle. Gem remote controls tie the motors together, set both a height and depth so the cable doesn't knot or bind. Works real well, price wasn't bad but you need to mount spring pilings.

I believe technically speaking a lift is a raising structure that is under the boat and lifts the boat upward. Most often seen with tanks or something under the boat that becomes buoyant and float upward. A hoist is a motorized system above the boat that raises the boat upward with cables. Those cables are attached to either a cradle or slings. A cradle is a steel structure under the boat, like your trailer, that the boat rests on when it is raised. A sling is where the cables are connected with heavy duty canvas straps and the boat rests on the slings. Slings are not normally used with inboards as the slings could interfere or damage drive shaft or running gear. The only way you could possibly use slings would be to position the back sling toward the center of the boat, therby making the boat prone to sliding out of the slings. Slings are widely used around here for outboards and pontoons since you don't incur the expense of building a cradle

Is this structure going to be in the water year round? When I see Ohio and any of the northern states I usually think and see docks that are tempoary, not year round use due to the problems that ice causes.

You might consider just suspending it from the lift rings. I am considering this with my G23 once we build our boathouse.

If you are building a boathouse I think the lift with cables, cradles, and bunks like a trailer is the way to go. Not sure why the pics are loading sideways but you get the idea.

Here's a few suggestions:

10' 6" width or a little more
30' depth of slip
10' ceiling minimum
Lift rated at 8-10K
220 volt for boat lift
uses marine grade 6x6 for pots
Think about how you might want to provide some shade for your boat.
Run water to your dock so you can wash the boat.
Have the ability to walk on both sides of the boat. This helps with cleaning and any other tasks.

When designing this position your posts in a very specific location to make the installation of the boat lift as simple as possible. 10-11' between cradles is common so figure out where you want your boat positioned in the slip, then determine post location for the lift. This is very important.

Me too! My friend, whose boathouse is in the picture I attached, owns probably 40 or so Correct Crafts. He hangs all of them in his boathouse like that when they are in the water.

I had my 1998 Ski Nautique hanging in there for a few days a couple weeks back. This is the only shot I took of it.

Remember, this is a project boat!! Don't judge it by how it looks now!

jeff, what happens when you get high winds on a lift like that? it doesn't look like there's anything to keep the boat stable front/back or side/side.

Good question, but it hasn't been much of an issue as far as I know. You could always tie the boat off to the boathouse supports if necessary. With the G weighing over 6,000 pounds with gas and gear, it would take a really strong wind to move it much.

Jeff - Have you confirmed that G series can be hung long term? I know the manual says they can be lifted but actually stored that way? It seems like the manual for non G boats used to recommend storing by the lifting rings but after looking at the manual for for the Gs it just says they can be lifted. I don't see any direct mention of storing. I am designing a boathouse. All the boathouse builders have looked at me funny when I have suggested lifting by the rings. With the droughts in Texas, I like the idea of saving draft by not have a cradle if possible.
