Ok so I'm looking at getting into a 2016 G23 (selling my 2013 G23 550hp). Love the new options and resale is in a pretty good place for my 2013. I'll agonize over the colors later but my question for you guys is this....will I miss any power going from my 550 to the 2016 450 HP option? I usually have quite a few people on the boat when we surf or board say 8+ ppl most times, sometimes more. We don't pack a lot of other 'stuff' since we run off a dock at the lake. I'm just wondering the pros/cons with going with the 450 this time? Will I like the gas consumption way better? I already know I like the smaller price tag of not getting the 550 so I can justify some of the price increase for this year. TIA!

I have a '16 with the XR7, and can tell you it is absolutely overkill with a 2:1 gearbox and 17x17 prop. Haven't driven with the new 450, but can't imagine how it wouldn't be plenty of power with the 2:1 gearbox. If I was to order again, I would probably save the $$ and just get the 450.

The 550 you have now still out performs the 450 w/ 2:1 tranny, when running heavy weight. It can push about another 1k pounds more than what the 450 can do. Someone who has been running the 550 w/ the 2:1 tranny setup, for more than a year now, has said that it pushes another 1k more than the 550 w/ the 1:1.48. I know the term "performance" is all in the eyes of the beholder, and for me, it means being able to move a lot of weight, as quickly as possible. If the crew you run with averages about 175 pounds, that's only 1400 pounds. If you're not adding any additional ballast, then I'd say the 450 will be more than enough. If your crew is heavier, you want to run more ballast, or you plan on having more people out, then I'd say the 550 w/ 2:1 is definitely something to consider.2018 SAN G23 XR550
