New boat (to me) on the way!

Trying to work through the crappy part of boat purchases. Anyone have feed back for insurance. Skisafe is literally half the cost of State Farm who is making a mint off of me already with everything we have covered. Should I look other places than skisafe? Any help is much appreciated. The Allstate commercials always make me second guess "cut rate insurance"

I have insured many, many boats through SkiSafe. Never had a claim, but I have been very happy with them. They'll do agreed value policies, too, which some others won't.

Progressive seemed reasonable to me when I bought mine. It was a referral from USAA since they don't do boats.

I have not made a claim yet, but SafeCo gave me a good deal when I bundled car, house, and boat.

No claim with ski safe yet used them for years then decided to keep everything at Allstate. I am back with ski safe because dealing with Allstate on my old boat was an absolute nightmare for a theft claim. I am also still in the process (3 yrs past) of trying to recoup deductibles from them.

Maybe things changed with Ski Safe, and I know they are a site sponsor (thank you!) but I had them for many many years without one claim and only modest increases. One year awhile back (I believe 2009 or 10 I think) My premium almost doubled. After calling and asking what happened and explaining that I had been a customer for 10 plus years - I was told "thats just what we have to do - thank you for your business".... Again, maybe its changed but that left a bad taste in my mouth... I used Global marine after that - that actually provided better rates and more coverage.... I never had a claim with either one so I can't advise on that. Best of luck!

Progressive here. 1/3 of what State Farm was going to charge me yearly. But State Farm is lower for my autos and home. They just don't understand "horsepower vs. speed"....lol. 21 foot boat? Yes maam....409 horsepower??? How fast it go....110?? LOL

Yeah I tried to explain my current boat had a higher top end speed than the 211. Of course, she didn't understand. She even asked me how many engines it had lol

I use Boat U.S. They seem pretty reasonable, but also never had a claim.

I have always used Ski Safe. As most know, it is a Geico company, so not really "cut rate" company from my perspective. I hit a rock at Lake Powell a few years ago in one of my old boats. Did a fair amount of damage to the bottom of the boat and the underwater gear. Ski Safe was great. I took the boat to my own mechanic and he worked directly with Ski Safe to make the repairs. Ski Safe made all of the recommended repairs--no questions asked. And my rates did not really go up the next year. Even now, with a much newer boat, my rates are extremely good. I highly recommend Ski Safe.

Third boat with Skisafe and love the people there. Great to deal with when purchasing and very friendly. No claims with them and hopefully never will but if they are a Geico company they will be good on a claim. I deal with all insurance companies daily and they are fair folks.

I made a claim with Progressive and it was all done to my satisfaction. It was pretty easy and not terribly expensive, but was worth the claim to me. (I bet none of you knew that the fiberglass fender on a Mastercraft trailer costs $1000+). I am still with them.

Insurance company's base their rates on there losses in that area. Its always a good idea to check rates every year and especially after a rate increase. Over the last 30 years I have had Boat US, Allstate , Skisafe and now Progressive. No claims and they all take my money the same.
