    Assisted lift tower

    Hi All,

I have a 2003 DD Sport 216 with a factory Flight control tower. I need to replace it with something lighter, easier to handle and with assisted lift/lower. Still want to make sure it looks good and not out of place though. I have been looking at the Roswell Aviator. Are there any others that I show consider?

    Thanks

    Wes

Double check the fold down height of the Aviator. I almost went with it and then bailed because it would not fold down low enough to fit in my garage. Really nice tower though. I ended up going with a Samson Edge tower. The fold down is pretty simple and it folds back instead of forward. Here is a video of the tower folding.

If it's just the handling that is a problem for you, it's very easy to take off the tower, insert a spring + steel wire or bungee cords inside the hollow tubes to make it easy for a single person to lower. The newer towers have some kind of spring inside the base pods that work that way.

From experience, WAY CHEAPER than putting in a new tower.

Alternately, put one hook or loop bolt on the lower tower and one on the upper and put a strong bungee between them when you want to lower/raise tower. Total cost probably about $25.
