2014 G23 new owner ballast question

Hey guys, I recently bought a 2014 g23. I have been out on it a handful of times and love everything about it! I primarily surf and have a few questions. First, when I fill up the ballast and then go to drain the tanks I don't see where the water is being pumped out? I know its emptying because the wake goes down considerably. My screen shows the ballast tanks empty as well. Maybe I am missing something....Also, I notice the pumps run for about 2 minutes after the screen says their empty. Should I shut them off or let them run until they shut off on their own. I usually use the "back to dock" setting that emptys all the ballast tanks.

The other thing I am considering is adding sacs to the boat. 750's in the rear and not sure yet up front. Is it easy to plumb these bags into the current system? Or am I better off throwing the bilge pump over the edge to manually fill them? How do you guys set yours up and are you capable of filling up the tanks and the sacs off the stock system thats on the boat?

    Thanks

Your G has reversible pumps and the water drains underneath the boat. Back to the dock is good.

Have Marinemax add a pair of 750s or 1100s to the rear lockers and integrate with the factory pumps. Do not have them piggybacked to the factory bags.....get a Y valve for complete control. Bow ballast...you can get bags added and plumbed in or just put 400lbs of lead. Check out www.leadwake.com if that.s of interest.

      I'd go to pop-products.com for lead. 400lbs in 10 40lb bags for $375 delivered.

Question - why do you feel like you need additional ballast? We've been riding Vision's 2013 G23 with NSS with nothing but an extra piece of lead, which we really only use for wake boarding to balance things out for people moving from side to side or when there's only one person in the boat.

        Just playing devil's advocate here...

Thats a great idea about the Y valve....I guess if I did lead up front I would just leave that extra weight up there at all times. How would that extra weight do if I was just cruising on the lake and people were sitting up there? I know its already a deep hull but would I have to worry about take a wave over the front?

Honestly I do like the stalk wave. Especially when I have a few people in the boat. There are a lot of times though it will just be me and the wife and maybe one other. I am not going to throw extra bags there until I borrow my buddies and see the difference. If it isn't a big difference I won't but if it really jacks up the wave then I'll probably spend the extra coin. I primarily surf too so I want to maximize the capability of the boat.

Stock wave is great but for a 1-2 man crew surf session you will want to add weight unless everyone is a goofy rider. It will cause the port wave to form up better since the prop spin and driver weight favor the starboard side. Then you will have a wave that you can do transfers on the fly without dropping/adding ballast.

I leave 400# of lead in the bow all year. Zero problems with people or no people in the bow.

I will say that stock wave with all tanks full is very very good and we only add additional weight to the rear when we just want to.....definitely not a requirement.
