    G23 for learning wakeboarding basics

The G23 seems to have really changed the game in Wakeboarding with its massive wake. I've always read that one should learn basics on a small wake and move up in size along with their skill level. Does this concept still apply to the G series boats given that their wake has such a long transition, and is clean down to 17mph? Or does the old rule still stand, limiting the G series and their large wake to mostly advanced riders?

That rule of monster wakes being intimidating and a hinderence is very boat specific. Some boats can be.....Mastercraft X25 comes to mind. However particularly relating to the G....when empty it is not intimidating at all. It's actually probably one of the best low speed wakes in the entire Nautique line. That's what makes the G kill the competition right now. It's versatility is something never really seen before in such a flagship boat. It's a user friendly wake of you want it to be, or it can blow both your ACL's if you want it to.

Test drive and see what you think. I bet you fall in love with the boat and the wake.

I often have mixed feelings when people talk about a clean wake to 17 MPH. I understand the desire to learn to jump at slower speeds, but my feeling is that by the time you can carve decent and can control your board, you can take it up to 19 or 20. A bigger guy will plow water at 17MPH and would enjoy the faster speed regardless.

But yes, take out all the ballast and go slower, and you have a tremendous wake to learn on. Don't forget to put the NCRS down to flatten the wake some as well for beginners.

The advantage of 17 mph (for me anyway) is that a fall from any failed trick attempt is painless. At 18 mph catching an edge on a failed spin or invert hurts. "Committing" is so important in trying new tricks. The memory of that last hard crash can decrease that commitment. At 17, I'll huck just about anything. Then when you get the trick down filler' up and speed up.

I second sja's comments. As an old guy here, I have landed more inverts and 3s, and my only 5s, on a small wake at slower speeds. I enjoy hitting a large wake once in a while, but I actually prefer, short and slow with moderate ballast as it gives you a much softer landing on the knees and ankles. I know that sound wrong,

Thanks for the input. This all makes sense. Has anyone taught their 5 yr olds to wakeboard behind this boat?

I´ve taught my nephews 4 & 5 year old. The speed is "when they float". (10-12mph)
With beginners I use 19mph ncrs 0 and you have a long mellow ramp with no foam.

The Gs are definitely not as good as a much lighter boat such as a 210 or better yet a 200 or similar for young kids. Once they get to about 17 mph, then you can get a clean wake provided you do not have a boat full of people.

Yup.. no issues. At 5yo, you can run them at wakesurf speeds easily I've also taught lots of my kids friends (7-12yo kids) and nobody has issues.

Run it slow (pull them up SLOWLY), no ballast and NCRS set to rampy.
