Assuming that the price of these boats is similar, what would you chose? We're in Tahoe where it's often choppy in the afternoon. Performance is certainly a factor but we're not hard core. We'll probably surf more than wakeboard. I might be leaning towards the G23 but it will be harder to find.

On a large lake like Tahoe, and considering that the G23 in my opinion is much better at all levels of wake boarding, I would go G23. The 230 will definitely handle better as the G is a bus. But the G will tolerate the chop better. The 230 wakeboard wake, while great, takes a significant amount of extra weight to achieve a nice shape and is wide and often forces riding at higher speeds than a G.

How much spray are we talking about? I'll use the boat more for surfing than wakeboarding. Unless I waited for a couple of years to get a used boat, the 2016 is beyond what I'd like to spend. Are the upgrades that big?

I might get crucified for saying this but there are a lot of boats out there that are significantly better than a G for handling chop. As much as I love our G, if we were on a bigger lake and often drove in chop often I'd buy something with a deep V hull. You should take it out for a test on a rough day and see if it works for you. I've never been on a 230 so can't comment.

by the way the surf spray is really not that bad... and of course you can control what direction you go in if it starts to bug you. On really windy days into the wind you will have some spray but it not awful.... plus on days like those you will either not surf, find a less windy spot or try to surf down wind as much as possible... it is not something to get worked up over. Nautique is all about quality so the 2016 solved that issue but it was a minor issue and they care enough to do something about it...

As always demo both if you can but the opinions here, mine included, will all say get a G23. Definitely a great boat and very good in rough water compared to other towboats i have ridden in.2015 G23 550
2013 Malibu 22MXZ

Something not mentioned yet....if you are doing to be doing alot of towing, make sure you wont have to upgrade your tow vehicle at the same time as a boat purchase! I have a 230, and if I stepped up to a G series then I would have needed to get a new truck in order to tow it safely. Just a thought......
There is a great thread at the top of the message board about safe towing of G-boatsLast edited by Guntersville230; 11-03-2015, 10:32 AM.
