New to Forum. Looking to purchase 2013 SAN230. Any advice?

    HI,

    New to the forums.

I am interested in purchasing one of these two SAN 230's

    http://www.buxtonmarine.com/web/used...exas/26325704/

    http://www.buxtonmarine.com/web/used...exas/27786515/

Any advice as to what to look for on these boats? Do any of you seasoned Nautique owners see anything that I should be made aware of regarding these two boats?

I will be mostly surfing and driving on big (choppy) lakes with family. How do these boats surf?

Also looking for info on those Roswell 6x9 tower cans. Are they any good? Might be replacing with Wetsounds or Exile. Is there a market for those factory cans on here?

    All info helps!

Wetsounds makes a 6X9 replacement speaker for those cans. I have no clue how good they are but I'm hoping someone will chime in about it.

Critical is engine and NSS. It seems they have similar options. The only difference is the number of speakers that you are planning to change anyway. For a 230 I would go for the bigger engine.

Do a quick search for "230 surf" and a thread titled "looking for info on 2015 230 surf setup" will come up. There is a lot of good info in that thread along with a lot of other threads.

Awe man! I like the color and trailer on the smaller engine one!

There are plenty of threads saying the smaller engine pushes the 230 well. Especially for surf. **** even some of the pro's agree. I still will always want the biggest engine option I can afford. To me the anything with the ZR6 is a must stacked against the base. Also I believe those Roswells are HLCD from them not standard 6x9's. I know they offered horns back then just can't tell for sure from the pics.

As far as surfing the 230 does it well. It also handles the rough water ok. NSS is a must since you're a surfer.

Are you in Houston? (HTX)? If so, the small engine (at sea level) is fine. I've seen those boats take a lot of ballast (with the right prop). Do you plan to run it in salt or brackish water? If so, that will also help you make a choice because the 6.0 is closed cooled.

I might be a small % but I have never liked orange boats and adding brown seadek to it makes it even worse IMO.
I have a 12 230, with the smaller engine, in an ideal world I'd have the larger one, but I wakeboard heavily weighted and have to make tight turns often, out of the turn I could use more push, starts are fine. As a family that surfs I don't think you'd have any issues, I surf with stock + almost 3k... At slow speeds of wake surfing even with a boat full of people I've never felt under powered. At the same price I'd go with the bigger engine with less hours, just for resale- but at the end of the day if that color combo makes you super happy do that- you should be stoked whenever you sit in your boat not wishing you'd gotten the other one because of what you heard on the internet. Either way the 230 is a great boat I'm sure you'd love either... One does have the trash can... Not a big deal for some, but being on the water all day its a really nice feature for others.

Good info, The "under the desk size trash can" is WAAAAAYYYYYY too small for anything we do. We always end up with 2 or so trash bags full of empty cans ;- /

I agree, you gotta crush your cans... Still way more convenient and clean than a trash bag under a cushion or my favorite... mounted to the tower
