    Prop Question

This may be a stupid question but here goes. There have been a few threads about repropping G boats with the 550s. One of the main threads I read is by nyryan here http://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/fo...-boats-finally

I have a G25 and would like to get a backup prop. I'm looking to buy a new prop that will possibly enhance performance and provide better gph. The stock prop will become the back up. The shaft on my G25 has been upgraded to the 1.25' shaft. In reading the thread above it seems there was some improvements to be had by going to a 16x16 or 16x15.5.

My question is with the availability of the 17x17 props for the 2:1 trannys has anyone tried one on a G with 550? I haven't seen anyone post about it. Will it not fit or is there some other reason it would be ill advised?

    Thoughts? Thanks

Ok like everything it depends. How you use your boat.

Surfing only? 16x16 and never look back. OEM ballast + 3000lbs and 10 folks no issues. Low RPMs, good performance, save tons of gas. 6-10gph

16x16 is not ideal for heavy 22-24mph wake. 17x17 on a 1.48:1 will be terrible.

If heavy 22-24mph wake is your goal, nothing has beaten the OEM 15x14.25... Or maybe the Acme ~16x14.5? But prepare for the 12-16gph you've heard of.

Wanna split the difference? Still do good at 24mph ballasted wake but wanna lower RPMs and save gas? Surf most of the time? OJ 16x15-15.5.
