    G23 Bow Storage Measurement

Just trying to get any idea of the shape and size of the bow storage coffins. Can anyone with a G23 measure the port and starboard lockers and let me know?

    Thanks!!

Did the front storage change at all between 15 and 16? I could measure my '15, but would feel bad if it changed some for '16.

Thinking of plugging in a U bag?

        Got it!

Hopefully I can describe it well because they are obviously pretty irregular in shape. In the very back, they are 24 inches wide, and as you progress forward, the location where the opening ends is about 12 inches wide. It is 34 inches from front to back of the opening. Towards the front, after the end of the opening to the hatch the floor comes up and narrows quite fast. So there is not much room forward of the hatch opening. I think a U sack would be pretty difficult to even thread through the bow, and for sure would not fill much, assuming that is what you are thinking.

By my calculations... a box 24 inches wide on one end, 12 inches wide on the other, 34 inches long and 10 inches deep throughout would hold about 220 pounds of water at best on each side. You could use a bigger sack and get a little more, but I think also you lose some with the way the fiberglass goes down into the compartment. Now I see why guys opt for lead on this forum.

How long is the actual compartment? My plan is to cut 4 inch pvc to 36" lengths and fill with used car weights. Need to fit 3 per side for roughly 300 pounds total in the bow, think those would fit? I want to get them built this weekend while I have time.

The compartment could fit 1 of those 4 inch tubes that would probably be 42 inches long without much trouble. I will measure tonight, now that I have an idea what you are thinking. The problem would be with all 3. If I forget, then my advice would be to make 1 of them 42 inches long and the other 2 34 inches long. I am very confident that would fit all 3. I will try and measure and see if 36 inches would fit 3 tubes.

You think it is only 300 pounds? I would imagine 6 tubes like that would be quite a bit more. With the tire weights, I have heard of guys putting sand in there and getting a good amount of weight extra to fill in the dead space.

Yea the weights aren't pure lead anymore they are an alloy so about 65% lead. But good idea with the sand! I will defiantly try the sand idea. Let me know what you come up with for measurements. Thanks!

The measurements were pretty close to what I said above. I don't think that 3 of the 4 inch diameter PVC pipes will fit under the lip at the front of the opening. 1 will fit easy and could go another 6-8 inches in length. Another could go 3-4 inches beyond the lip as well. From the back wall to that lip is 35 inches. To be safe, if I were doing that project, I would make a 42", 40" and 34". You could probably make the long ones even longer, but I would hate to have them fully made and full of tire weights, and then realize it won't fit.

Thanks for the info. My old man already cut the pipe at 36" last night without me knowing so I guess that's what I will be going with haha. The caps had a couple inches on each end so that will add abit. I'll cut one of them down alittle shorter. Should be close to the weight I need anyway, thanks for the input! I'll let you now how they fit once I get the boat in April.

Finished building the weights today and with the extra help of the sand I was able to get them down to 31.5" at 50 pounds each so they should fit easily with room to spare for other stuff! Thanks again for measuring for me!
