    Another cheap DIY surf plate

Haven't tried this yet. I think I will put one more rachet strap on it. It's still kinda chill here and the river is pretty muddy. I just wanted to put some ideas out there. This might not work at all. It's all from scrap wood. Nothing is screwed to the platform.

looks like it sticks out too far from the side of the hull, you need to have it flush or even inside the back of the transom a little bit.

Agreed....looks like water will just get behind it and rip it off...could be wrong I guess.

Look great, how big is the difference with and without wedge. Any plans to make it out of plastic eventually?

the main difference is you can switch from wake boarding to surfing in 5 mins tops. The wave is definitely better than before but it used to take 15-20 minutes to empty one side of ballast and fill another bag. Now we just keep the boat slammed and throw the wood wedge on there.

We used to surf with the boat tilted way over the the starboard side so much that we had to put plugs in the thru holes to keep it from coming in the side. Now it sits almost completely level. (the 400 behind the driver is against the starboard wall so it might be a little tilted to the R but nothing compared to the way we used to lean it.

down side: it's very hard to turn right while idling. The wood wedge takes up a huge amount of space in the floor but we don't run sacks in the floor except when surfing.

If we weighted the boat the same way without the wedge you couldn't surf it. There'd be only white wash on both sides.

No plans to make a plastic one at this time. I made this from scrap wood and if it eventually breaks I can make another one for free. Eventually I want to buy one of the mission deltas if it works so it won't take up nearly the room in the boat. But for a Free wedge this thing makes a big enough difference that it's going the river every time the boat does.

It makes it so if someone wants to surf then someone else wants to wakeboard, it's easy to switch back and forth. It's very ugly. but you can't hardly see it anyway so I don't care.

Looks like you could make one like the Mission Delta on the cheap. West Marine has a double locking suction cup for $65. With a little ingenuity and a couple of cutting boards I'm sure somebody could piece one together pretty cheap.

great post! have a buddy with a 2000 xstar who made one that looks almost identical to yours with the ratchet straps and it works just as well as yours! I'm also waiting for mission to post a 210 video to see how it works on our hull. good work
