      RE: acme props

I installed an acme 422, in place of my 4 blade stock oj. It wasnt an obvious difference to me, as far as seat of the pants judgement goes. PP seemed to be almost identicle times. It was only on for a day before I hit something and had to go back to the OJ. The machined props dont seem to me to be as durable as the cast ones. I have had it repaired, and will keep it as a back up. It was really smooth, but so is my oj. Unless I needed a new prop, I wouldnt spend the $$. Just my .02.

I purchased mine from Delta, and it was the best deal around with the planet nautique discount.

upgraded my oj 3 blade to an acme 4 blade a couple of years ago. I called acme directly from their website and a salesman sent me the prop, a prop puller kit, and a carry case. You just need to know your engine and whether it is right turn or left turn. The salesman can help you.

Eric Johnson at OJ sent me an XMP prop so I could do a side-by-side comparison to the 3 blade Acme I was already running. I did a pretty detailed write-up, which you can download as a word file here ...

            http://www.zshare.net/download/prope...final-doc.html

In the end, I kept the acme, but both props were nice, and a great improvement from a bang-for-the-buck perspective over a hand-finished prop.

My '02 SANTE came with the acme CNC prop, and I would say it was good from the factory, but I have dinged it a few times, and each time took it to a local to hve it reworked. Each time it returned as good as new being "hand worked" even though it did not have the cnc look.

The last time I decided to have them change the pitch a bit and add some cupping in addition to what it had before. I had them lower the pitch a bit and add more cupping. Now it pulls like heck from a start, and I have better top end (with the stock prop I could hit the rev limiter, but now the RPMs stay at a safe 5050 RPM max). I also gained 2-3 mph on the top end. The balance is better than ever before, so my opinion is the cnc gets it really close, but a true prop artist can get it spot on.

When I get a spare, I think I might just send it straigt to them to have it customized since there is no stock prop that fits my needs.

Dinged our prop badly last season and it still had serious vibrations after being "fixed" 2 times. Just got our boat saturday with a new Acme and love it. Boat is running better than ever. Noticeably faster acceleration and should benefit me alot more as I add more weight in the future. So far we're very pleased with it.

Great Props when straight but they bend like butter, unlike the old cast OJ on my 1995 that used to "blender" through logs.

Luke, do you think the 644 would work good with my setup? I believe it is the stock prop on mine in '02? Need to get one soon tho.
