So I took the center cap off. Hard to tell with my iPhone but there is a distinct line that is black. I think this is the original color.

ID:	482938 Still not buying it. After I got home tonight, I searched the web and found about 20 boats....all condition 2000 and 2001 and they all had gold in the middle of the wheel. Some where black...most were black....but I found tons of gold. I just don't think they faded to gold. If would not look that smooth. Some of the pics looked like they came straight off the showroom floor. Very clean boats. Heck...I could be wrong though....but like we agree...they all steer the best boat in the land!!!!

I have to agree with Kenv, seems unlikely that the loss of the colour on the wheel, would've/could've turned it to goldish brushed finish... That's just my two pesos!!

Alright I think Kenv is correct. I will concede that its not a fading issue. I looked at the backside of the wheel and it was gold so I feel confident it came that way. I assume the wheel is anodized and looked this morning and its possible to stripe the anodizing off to bare aluminum. So I may attempt to try that on the backside and go with a bare aluminum wheel with the black handle. However I am worried about the reflection from the sun...

If you don't like the gold anodized finish, you can simply paint it silver or black. Just prepare the metal with a light sanding and mask the rim urethane material.
