    Prop Pitch

I have a G23 550 with a 17" x 17" prop. I have always carried a spare prop in all the boats I have owned. Currently my RPM's max out at 5,400 and I am assuming the boat's automatic RPM governor has kicked in because I hit 5,400 very fast. I am considering purchasing a 17" x 18" prop for my spare which should still run within the RPM's recommended. Also should give me a little higher top end speed. Have any of you updated to the 18" pitch prop?

Your prop is new for 2016 so there may be limited data on a 17x18. I do like the idea and think you'd be fine. Maybe call OJ Props for some advice.

I have the same drivetrain on my '16, and definitely think it would turn a 17x18 easy enough. The 550 with the 2:1 and 17x17 is way overkill.

Understand... That 17x17 reaching 5400 quickly is based on an empty boat?

Fill your 2850 ballast.... Add another 1-2000lbs ballast and 6 adults.

You'll have an entirely different situation. Don't go up in pitch unless you are certain you have the performance to give up. As you WILL give up 0-23 launch performance when sac'd heavy if you go up in pitch.

How does the fuel burn on the 2:1 17x17 compare with the old setup?
