wow that seems to be the calmest reaction i've ever seen from someone who took their boat out for their first time and had it get caught on fire. I need anger management tips from you therev1...

anyway, i'm also interested to hear what happend, i hope everyone/everythings alright...

The only reason I am calm is I just finished crying!!
My son and I started the boat up and ran it at idle out of the cove, black smoke starting coming out of engine, the more we ran it the worse it got. All the plastic parts are melted, there is oil blown all over the engine, black oil on the platform and bottom of boat. And by the way water was pouring in on my feet at the driver's seat the whole time. I have owned Nautiques for years, this was my first brand new one.

and why did you keep running the boat if water was dumping out on your feet? What boat and engine? Give us some more details and fill us in. This sounds hokey.

I feel the same way...you're not being very specific after your $50K+ boat just blew up. I've seen some much more detailed posts about a rub rail being crooked...kind of seems like someone is trying to stir the pot....do you have any pics???

Disclaimer: my apologies if your new boat really did blow up.

First off and I apologize for not saying it earlier, I hope and pray that you and your son were not injured. You can replace boats.........

Black smoke from the engine, water dumping at your feet. I will say that black smoke coming from the engine is a good reason to shut it down and grab the fire extinguisher. I will also say that a brand new boat should not throw black smoke from the engine compartment.

Why would you think I was making up such a story?
It is all true, the reason we kept going was we were in the middle of the lake -the only boat on the water & our cell phones were down today-network problem. We were out there the two of us, and the only thing I was attempting to do was get my son and myself to safety-who cares about an object such as a boat?? I really don't understand why anyone would make up such a story.

Any thoughts on why the boat caught fire and what happened to make it flood??

I have no idea what so ever. We idled out about a mile and then gave it some throttle, black smoke was pouring out so thick you couldn't see or breath.

Wow. Only thing I can think of is the hoses, vinyl, carpet, and plastic all burning due to a fuel leak some place that finally ignited after you had gotten out there. Once the hoses are gone, the boat could fill up with water from the through hole for cooling. If your impeller kept going and the hose after it burned through it would fill even faster.

I am glad neither you nor your son was hurt. Call your insurance company and send them some digital pics, I would also get on the horn with CC and your dealer. Your brand new boat should not catch on fire like that, really, no boat that has been maintained should either. That's pretty scarey.

I just spent the weekend going over my boat making sure all the hoses were tight and the fuel lines were good etc. It's a used boat so I take it upon myself, i would be a bit perturbed if I got a new one and it caught fire.

Ok I'm calling B*LL S** on this story, first of all, I just bought a brand new boat and if I just took it out for the first time, let alone with my son and the engine was billowing smoke out so thick you couldn't see or breathe, I think I'd be a little bit more animated about the whole ordeal. I mean stuff like that is TV worthy, especially if there was a child. I certainly hope that if this event is definitly true, some continuance in detail would certainly help those of us who are curious about faulty equipment and how the situation was handled. Please carry on .....

Gotta say that I am suspect with this story. I have been a few burning boats a few times in my life (mostly hot rods) but one inboard of another mfg. but that's not the point. How could somebody was so naive to go out without taking a few minimal precautions on the first drive? It's a boat, not a car. Look, listen, smell - if it did somehow catch fire you waited until the smoke was so thick you could barely breathe? Where was the fire extinguisher when this was happening.

If this story is true as told I would have had my lifejacket on and been over the side swimming away from the boat long before the smoke got that thick. You were in a marina right?

By the way, welcome to the site, this is your first post right?

Do you think this is covered under waranty? I'm only joking about it becuase there seems to be a bit of a humorous and suspicious vibe in this thread...

Please though post some pics, I hope you have some or can take them. Also, give us some specs on what you had in the boat, what options you had, what your dealer did/did not do when delivering the boat. If the issue came from the factory, the boat should have caught fire when the dealer went for the initial drive with you and showed you all the bells and whistles. Your dealer did deliver it to you and go for a ride with you, right? If not, I'd blame the dealer. If the dealer did do his job and the boat ran fine, as in not blowing up, then something happened to the boat in the interim between you taking it for your first REAL ride, and after delivery ride. If thats the case, then god knows what could happen, and thats an excuse for CC NOT to cover it under waranty--scary thought... Did you have fireboy?

ok, here is my stab. IF the story is true and the thing caught fire, the clue is the water at his feet. the heater was not connected right, he drove a half mile until the thermo opened, when it did the line let loose. the water spilled out, the motor ran dry, overheated, caught fire....BUT the computer would have put it into limp mode long before that..... so whatever, sounds hokey.
