Good Nautique surf boat under 40k

I have a friend at work who want to buy a used boat for surfing and some boarding.
He likes the Mastercraft X2, Is there a older Nautique model that surfs well?

The best option at a surf boat the Nautique line for that price point would be a Nautique 220 it will come in even lower than 40k. Due to its deeper V compared to other Nautique models it has the better surf wake. You could also potentially get it in a right hand rotation or a left hand rotation drive option. Will help the wake either on the goofy or regular side.

If you're wanting to compete directly with the X2 the 07-current 210 will wakeboard and surf better than the X2. It will drive better and just give you everything an X2 will and then more. You can also retrofit Nautiques Surf sytem on the 210 and really max out the surf potential. You can find 07-08 210's under 40. Little rare at sub 40k but definitely a price that can be obtained. If it were me I would be hunting down an 07/08 210

You may be able to find a 230/236 for under $40. They surf well.

220 also expirence. Good surf wave a little sensitive to side to side weighing but both surf wave and wake board wave pretty easily obtained with some added weight.

Definitely the 220. With a W711 Bow Sac, 750's in the rear and another 400-500 under the seats on the side you're surfing on...you'll get something like this!

*disclaimer, these are not my pictures. However they came from a fellow 220 owner who told me how to set my boat up for surfing.

There they are!!! I knew someone would bring those pics up. If that's real that's gotta be one of the best waves ever! I've had our 220 pretty heavy and was good but not like that!

If I recall correctly, He said they had a bow bag, a bag in the forward locker, 500 under the rear seats and 750's in the rear lockers as well.

                      220 is a winner but get a 409 engine

Those are my pics. The 220 was sooooo ahead of its time in interior layout that it never got a fair shake for its board/surf capability. That in conjunction with the fact that the wake appears sensitive from the boats perspective and that it likes riding fast had it run off the market pretty quick.

Mine was a 2006 with the RH prop and surfed both sides equally well. Just going off memory, we had 750s piggy backed on the rear tanks (they would completely fill the lockers but unlikely held the full 750. same with the V sack in the front (and had 150lbs of lead in the center locker). with a small crew, a 400 side to side on the floor behind the reversible seat and one on the surf side seat will be killer. you can actually just roll the one on the surf side across the reversible seat and the 400 on the floor to the other side when switching surf sides. I believe we surfed that boat in the mid 12 mphs.

For comparison sake, I preferred the 220 surf wave to my 230. It was steeper and faster and easier to ollie off of.

As for the engine, I disagree. Mine had a the 375hp ZR6. A friend had the identical boat with the 343 Excal. The only advantage mine had (with identical props and plumbed ballast) was...nothing. Buxton marine specs all their dealer boats with the base level engine. CC is not in the business of building under performing boats by putting weak engines in them so that you can save a buck.
