    Humminbird Depth Finder

Has anyone installed a transducer inside the hull. If you have where, to get the best results.

We attached ours on the flat spot at the front of the engine compartment nearest the driver ('95 SN). When attaching, make sure there are NO air bubbles in the epoxy (or whatever adhesive you use). They will creat false readings. We wanted ours as far "forward" as possible on a part of the hull that was in constant contact with the water. In case you don't know, the signal comes out as an inverted cone ( ^ ). The reading comes from the front edge of the cone. If it is to far back you may not get a reading fast enough to prevent damage when you suddenly run into shallow water.

I dont think you'll have enough time to slow down from skiing speed anyway upon hearing the depth sounder change. But in our 210 we found the best place to be in the center locker near the center ballast tank. You gotta keep in mind that turbulent water ie around fittings/cocks underneath the boat will also cause false readings. Where is the factory one installed.

I installed mine just aft of the drain under the oil pan. Figured less water turbulance and wanted to read the depth at center of boat instead of the stern. Wanna know depth before prop does! Mine is a 88' model
If you can't do it in, on, or behind a Nautique..... It just ain't worth doing!

I was thinking close to the drain. I would assume that most of the time this area would be in contact with the water unless the boat is upside down.
I need the depth finder only for slow cruising close to shore. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend a hummingbird depthfinder. I would go with the Feria. The depth reading gets flaky from time to time. Also check out this posting.

Rdmaster ... I realize at skiing speed it would not help, none will. They are all only usefull at slower cruising speeds near shore.

Agree ... Hummingbirds suck ... Ferias are much more reliable!

I see the Faria have a in-hull, thru-hull and a transom mount. I have a 00 SAN and need reliability which the Humminbird is not. I have a little wire running down the back of the hull to a little trans mounted at the back/bottom of the hull. Which model of Faria is most similiar to what i have right now ?

Just in case you haven't seen it, there is another thread on Hummingbird depth finders that might be of interest...
