I've done a few searches and checked out the "Show Us Your Nautique," I haven't been able to find a whole lot about the Air Nautique 216 model boats. I'm currently looking at a 2004 model AN 216 TE, and it seems like there is more info on the 210's. Is this just an popular boat? I'm guessing the whole D-drive thing probably makes it less appealing, as far as reliability though is this year and model boat solid?

Solid boat. Probably skis a little better than it wakeboards. No reliability problems, just make sure it's in good shape for a 12 year old boat.
You're right it's not as popular as 210. Everyone wants a v drive so they can wakesurf. 216 it's possible to wakesurf but not going to do it very well

I cant help much on the 2004. I have a 2010 Air Nautique 216 Team Edition and really enjoy it. Wake and surf wake are excellent for the boat and the price. Nautique is such a reliable boat. I am currently selling it for 44kComment

Xlair, thanks for the response. Yea just not a whole bunch out there on this particular boat. Its between this and a 2005 210 SANTE and they are about $12k difference in price, just trying to understand which one would be better value.Comment

To expand on XL's comments, no reliability issues at all with the 216 and in fact it will be much easier to service then the VDrive being a mid engine boat. Check out the reference sections here and on CCFan, should be brochures for all the model years the 216 was offered, 2003 thru 2009
Choice between those boats and which may be a better fit for you really depends on what your primary uses will be. Like XL mentioned the 216 will be a better ski wake and will turn/track more precisely while the 210 will shine with the wake sports.
The 216V camp mentions is an entirely different boat then the 216 you are looking at, the only thing they have in common is their model name.Comment

My friend has a 216 that is about a 2004, awesome boat, skis why better then any other 22 ft boat (I own a Closed Bow Ski for reference). the most shocking thing is the surf wave when loaded and listed, it surfs great, better then many V-drives I have been behind (I also have 24ft V-drive for reference). I love the 216 and if it wasn't a DD they would have sold tons more. 216 is maybe the most versatile boat ever made.Comment

Thanks for the feedback! Our family are not "hardcore" boaters but our kids are getting to that age where we think they will have more interest (the oldest being 6). We have the opportunity to buy another boat and had always said our next one would be a V-Drive but we have the opportunity to purchase a very nice D-drive (the 2004 AN 216 TE mentioned above). We're at a bit of a crossroads to determine which one is the best value for us and will meet our needs. We've primarily just wakeboarded (the adults) nothing serious, just literally get up and ride then fall down and then switch people. Our kids however we think will grow up a bit more exposed to water sports so we're trying to take that into consideration. We've never surfed but that is something I think we would be very interested in. Which from what I have read is done much easier in V-drives.Comment

We have the 2004 216 Limited Ski, same hull direct drive. No issues with the set up, wake is small enough not to scare kids learning to wakeboard, ski, etc. With sacks we can get our older teenagers to surf freely (longer board of course). Never any maintenance issues.Comment

I have a 2005 216 and I cant seem to get it set up to surf well.... how does your buddy set up his boat. I have yet to get mine setup to surf better than any v-drive my buddies have. Thanks for your input.Originally posted by jpattigr View PostComment
