Beg4wake, thanks for the video link, that is really an eye opener! I think it will take some time for people to "acclimatize" to the 5.3 direct injection engine as the new standard. I know I had my biases based on how the Excalibur performed and based my opinion around that.

To the OP, if you're new to wake boats, just guessing that you'll spend a lot of time surfing, given that, and the relatively small "upcharge" to get the 23 vs. 21, I would go G23. It appears that the G23's hold their resale value better. The '16's get a full transfer of warranty, not just parts, so resale on the '16's should be strong down the road...(at least within the warranty period)

They also have a video (below) showing a new G21 with the 5.3L H5 up against the 5.7L EX3 from a '15 G21. Mark even states in the video that the new 5.3L is more comparable to the 409's of old, and that it actually out performs the 409 and with better efficiency! IMO, if going with any '16 model, opt for the H6 and you'll never need more and always have enough...plus resale is better with the H6

In a 16 G21 the H5 is really enough to do what ever you might want to do. I was a bit nervous about my G21 with the H5 but it gets on plane very easy with 600lbs of lead and full ballast for wakeboarding. I have a couple of sacks that I have yet to add to the boat but I am not concerned at all about getting it on plane. It might take a little longer than stock but that is still a drastic improvement over most other boats I ride in. Another reason for the 16 IMO is the ballast shift feature, makes it super easy to balance the boat no matter where everyone moves around to or just to balance the prop torque which is more noticeable in the 21. You can do this on the older boats but it is much more manual in the screens.

If your going to go up to the G23 the H6 or 450 is minimum what I would do.

With used just do some research on specific years to see if anything pops up around upgrades or recall issues. For example, '13s have a recall on the shaft because of some shearing issues. If you can afford a one year old model its usually going to be better since each year the manufacturer will learn and incorporate 'real world' usage feedback into the design and or factorizing process. So my recommendation would be to find a a used 2015 that you like or a DEEPLY discounted new 2015, since the 2016s are out and are slightly redesigned the 15s should be discounted to move to make room for 2016's.

FWIW, 23 vs 21, just go for what feels better when driving it. These boats are HUGE on the water and if you aren't used to driving them the 21 will be easier to maneuver around the lake. Others can chime in but I have heard that the wave on the 21 is VERY nice and rivals the 23's wave.

Both prices include trailer. Same options. Only difference is the 16 has the new stereo, touch screen and driver chair. Exact same boat just one is the newest version. Thoughts?

The newer one will most likely have a few other features not available on the '15. Like surf select - being able to do wave transfers at the control of the rider (as well as some other aspects if paired with the pebble watch). Also the '16 will have less spray thanks to the new hull designs. The surf will be ever so slightly better on the '16 as well since the hull was redesigned with this in mind. Wakeboard wake will be about the same on both models. The '16 will be a little better on fuel efficiency. And the JL Audio is a huge upgrade IMO. Plus as stated before, the ballast shift option is nice. Also, to me, the difference between the touchscreen and the buttons beside the screen isn't that drastic, but having the turn knob beside the throttle is an awesome feature! I also just personally prefer the shape and design of the '16 WAY more than that of the '15. The new drivers chair is also very nice. My opinion is the '16. But that's also a pretty substantial price savings on the '15. And the '15 will still be as nice if not nicer than most every other boat on the water!!

Couldn't have said it better. It might be hard to justify the price increase from '15 to '16 until you actually spend time in both on the water. The '16 is really a whole new boat that is much more intuitive to use with better technology. '15 is now technically an old style hull plus the warranties between '15 and '16 are not the same.
Go for the '16, you won't regret it!

                      considerations in priority order:

                      1. Dealer quality, reputation and service

                      Ryan,

Its my understanding that Nautique dealers won't sell new boats to customers who live outside of their territory. So if we want a new Nautique we are at the mercy of our nearest dealer. I guess that's why you ranked brand at a distant 3 behind Dealer quality, reputation, and service.

Except for those of us who are lucky enough to live in a "gray" area!! I myself got the option between 2 dealers that were located an equal distance from me. Only downside, is that neither are that close to me also. Both are about 1.5 hours away.

If you've never had a wakeboat before it won't matter if you buy a G21, G23 or a G25 in any model year, they'll all blow you away. Personally I have a 2014 G21 with the 550 and I couldn't be happier with it.
