    Batteries

Ok, well it's not for a nautique but for a boat nonetheless. I need some batteries for our boat, and don't want to spend more than 75 each for them. I know you will say get optima blue tops, but this is for our current boat which is just a fishing type boat. I am probably just going to go to walmart and pick them out.

I need 2 12 volt for the trolling motor, and a starting..

    Any suggestions?

No particular suggestion, just get deep cycle and the ones with the greatest reserve capacity for the trolling motor. For the starting battery, your choice will be about as good as any, just pay attention to the cold cranking amps.

You might consider a pair of golf cart batteries? Her is a comparison chart between 4 small optimas, 3 big optimas, and 2 golf carts.

      Ah 220 225 225
      weight 176 180 124
      cu.in. 2148 2342 1608
      cost $676 $600 $138

      Ah/$ 0.33 0.38 1.63
      Ah/lb. 1.25 1.25 1.81

They will need to be full size mike, I guess I will just go and pick out whats best. So what's a good number for cold cranking amps?

Cold cranking amps is not necessarily a good measure for the trolling motor, amp hours is probably more indicative. The big blue tops have 75 amp hours. Run your trolling off one of those and use your existing starting battery, use a combiner to charge them. That will be a bit over your budget of $150. If you run a starting battery like a deep cycle it will kill it. You can also just get a regular deep cycle battery from Costco (or a pair) like most other fishermen have.

            Mike,
Thanks. Isn't your name Mike Malloy?

Anywhom, my budget it probably going to be about 200 even. I might go with a optima for starting and two regular deepcycles for trolling. Does this sound good?

Just get a pair of golf cart batts for about $65 each and keep your existing starting battery, that's what I did (of course I'm trolling with tunes, LOL). This will give you more trolling capacity than most fishermen and save you money. I have a charging circuit I can send you if needed.

                  Mike,
Thanks. I guess i will do that then. We wil have to buy a new starter battery no matter what, because all of our batteries are dead now. Re have tried various ways of recharging without luck.
