Really want to get the G21 but....

I absolutely love the G21 (23 is too big for my lake) and am finally in a position to pull the trigger on one. We currently have a '16 T22 and have been impressed by the surf wave and wakeboard wake. After testing out the G, I was hoping to be blown away by the surf wave but I wasn't. Now I'm hesitating. There is no question about the fit and finish between the two and the G storage is insane. It does come back to the wave for me though. I really was hoping for a drastic difference and I didn't see or feel it. What am I missing? Has anyone ridden behind both and seen a dramatic difference? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Sorry but you're not going to get close to that T22 wave. It's rock solid. Wakeboard wake is also right there.

Its going to be hard to go against the wake performance of that Axis. You get a ton more amenities, little higher quality of components, better finished product , and bling obviously with the G , but the wakes are high end on your Axis. It's a tough tough tough upsell asked on wake performance alone

Thanks for the feedback. We've been really happy with the wave/wake of the T22. I can't justify to the "CFO" paying the extra $$ for the G without the performance being as close to what we have now.

I find I try to justify something as well but end up doing what I want. You can make that G21 surf wave as good as the T22 with a bit of extra weight. The wakeboard wake on the 21 apparently is almost as good as the G23 which as you know is the ultimate., You'll be looking at the G21's and wishing you had one until you finally break down and get one. YOLO. Get the G21 and don't look back and make the surf wave the way you like it. Even if you add ballast you'll be well ahead with the storage space and the fit and finish, quality blows the Axis out of the water. You'll be moving from a budget boat to THE premium 21' boat on the market.

As someone who completed my search and got a G23 this year, I agree with Bhazard. The heart wants what the heart wants. The G is a no-regrets boat in my opinion. No one in a G has ever looked at an Axis across the lake and wished they'd gone Axis. Just my opinion.

The wave behind a T22 is more like a big roller with no lip to speak of. I would never pick that over a G21. I got to surf behind both at the polar bear event two years ago. If I remember correctly, the G21 got the highest marks from the entire group of all the boats there and that T22 had over 6000 pounds in it.

Thanks for all the feedback on this. The "other" little voice on my shoulder was winning out. I plan on getting the whole family on the G again and giving it a good trial.

I wakeboard behind a lot of boats and the G is my favorite wake but it's not $100K better than the others. My old $35K centurion surfed almost as good.

The law of diminishing returns definitely applies to owning a G. That said, I don't regret buying it - after all, you can't take money with you when you die so you should enjoy it.

Yes, the wakes on the top boat brands are all good. No question. And Axis does make some nice boats, but there is a difference in construction and usability. First you notice the weight difference of the boat, second you have some family friendly storage available on the G, with full ballast. Then all seats with hinges, a usable trashcan, you can use the rear locker for the surfboards, no carpet on the boat, and at the end, a nice construction with a lot of details like where the pumps and fuses are, how you can access them .... The G21 is a rock solid boat and you can feel it when you hit some waves with the boat.

Bought a 15 G21 (coming from a 13 Tige Z1) this winter. Couldn't be happier... Still playing w the wave but when I surfed an Axis I felt it to be a little soft. I have added lead and will be looking at some additional ballast bc the boat can handle it. Boat drives so incredibly well and feels solid. Love it.
