    2004 SANTE speed and power

    Hi everyone,

We're just starting our first season with a Nautique, a 2004 SANTE with a PCM Excliber 330. It has a four blade 13.25"x16" prop on it, which I think was standard. What I'd like to know is if our boat/engine is performing as well as it should, because it sure seems weak to me.

With two people on board, the ballast tanks empty, and 3/4 tank of fuel, it tops out at about 42mph, at 4400rpm. With three people on board, and about 2400# of ballast (stock tanks full, plus two 400# sacks on top of the rear tanks, and a 750# sack in the middle of the boat), it'll barely maintain 10-11 mph for surfing. The Perfect Pass system asks for 'MORE THROTTLE', even when it's already at the max. I had to move the two passengers to the bow to maintain speed.

    So, is this typical?

    Thanks.

I would say no, not typical. I have a different prop, but my 2002 will go 10 loaded up with half throttle and gets there without effort. Empty, 36 is cruising speed with about 3/4 throttle.

definitely not proper. I have same prop and engine, no problem getting boat full of people and 3500 lbs of ballast moving. Check PP per manfacturers instructions. If it is not adjusting itself properly at ignition on, your throttle can be greatly impacted. PP actually controls how your throttle responds even when off with the cable style , which I think you have. If you look at how it hooks up, without proper tension on the PP solenoid, you cannot open throttle wide open. It allows your throttle lever to move without opening throttle on the engine.
